1969 Highboy.

Post by Bill Ramsey »

years ago, picked up a '69 Highboy. It was rough. I could tell it had already been body swapped once. little clues here and there. pulled the body off, sold off or scrapped it. Cleaned the frame up, made a gas tank, painted it, installed a '68 body from a truck i got for free. I rebuilt the Dana 24, and pulled the freshly rebuilt 390 out of my other truck to freshen up and install. Found a Dana 44 front with disc brakes and put that under it. Also swapped in the power assist steering. Im gonna run that to see how well it works. i cleaned and repainted the firewall, had the core support and inner fenders powdercoated, resealed the floor, repainted the kick panels, redid brake lines etc. still putting it together, a little bit each weekend.
Next, I will attach photos from my phone.

Floor was all rusted out. took a wire brush to it, primed areas with rusty metal primer and cut holes for shifters. I hate POR-15 so dont suggest it. repainted kick panels. rest of cab looks presentable so leaving it.

Some Peel and Seal on the floor, it will be covered with the original rubber mat. nice original seat, and progress photo. the truck bed has the toolbox on the side. when installing on the highboy frame, the tool box hit the spring hanger. i loosely put in the rear two bolts to hold the bed to the frame, and then forcibly slid the front of the bed back and forth, denting the toolbox against the spring hanger. Caveman style but hey, it worked perfect. Thats it for now.

You are like me, I don’t have much use for Por15 either.
