Hi, everyone. I hope you all are having a good new year so far. I managed to get some work done in the last few days!
I got my own welder for Christmas! The other one i was using i had been borrowing it from my grandpa. So now i finally have my own. It works great. I tried out the new welder by putting a patch on the door, It didnt come out super great, but it's nothing a little putty can't fix. I tore the front suspension off to rebuild it. the right side kingpin was very loose so I tore it apart and found that the previous owner had put a kingpin in from a dentside, which is quite a bit smaller than a bumpside, so thats why it was so floppy. he had also stripped out the threads on the top brass grease cap and it was pretty much just setting on the top loose. And there wasn't even a grease cap on the bottom! This is what the inside of the I-beam looks like. it is destroyed.

The guy that owned it before me also bent and mangled up the bolt that holds the kingpin in.

Sorry to see that carnage. Now you might as well move forward and upgrade to discs. If you do, you need to grab all of the steering components as well as the brake proportioning valve. If you could get a parts truck that would be best. The other option is a crown vic swap?

I started working on the tailgate. Got the latch mechanism torn out so it can be cleaned.
There was on rust hole on the bottom of the tailgate, so I got it cut out to put a patch on it. Overall the tailgate is in pretty decent shape other than that one rust hole and a couple of dents that need pulled. but other than that it's not bad.

You are going to like that welder. I love it, have the same one. Used it to fix the portable garage tubes that got damaged. I also used it to weld the truck frame. It is so adjustable, so much better than the hi/low older version from HF!

Yeah, I really like the welder. It is very versatile. And perfect for working on sheet metal. I also like it cause it's light and easy to move around.

Finally was able to get some work done on the truck. I have still been hunting for front suspension. I have decided to go with the crown vic swap.
The cab is now flipped back down on the mounts so I can work inside.
Yesterday I went and rewelded a couple of patches in the interior of the cab, that I had done before but they weren't done very good, and with my new welder I am able to get it much better. I also welded up a bunch of holes that were around the back window. The previous owner had screwed a bunch of snaps around there and I'm not sure why. I have seen other trucks with them and never knew what it was for. Whas it for some kind of window shade? It's just weird because none of them are evenly spaced and they only go all the way up one side. The other side they just stop at the bottom. I managed to get them all welded in without burning through! I also pulled the doors off the cab, and took all of the glass out to get new seals put in. You are really doing a nice job. I think the snaps around the window were for a boot for a camper. I remember seeing slide in campers installed where they would remove the back window and put in a snap in boot so you would have open access to the camper from the cab. Seems like they were even inflatable. Someone correct me if I am remembering that wrong. It's been a while since I have seen one.
