Have a update for yall.

Post by joscap69Ranger »

Been a long time sense I have been on here. I have been real busy. My wife passed away last year in child birth...and just now getting back to my projects.

The last time i posted I had just put my 351 Windsor with the FMX tranny in my 1969Ford Ranger LWB. ( I had pulled out a 360 with a C6.)

Engine runs like a dream. I put a points distributor in place of the electronic ignition to simplify the ordeal.

Over the weekend I put new U- Joints in...first time doing that.

Now I just purchased a tilt steering column and will have that in this weekend.

Just want to say thanks to all the help ppl offered on here.

I like my small block.

I still have a small road vibration...it might be the tires...It has mixed matched brands...all radials..but who knows when they were balanced last. But it is no biggie at the moment. Will post some pics later this week now that I own a digital Camera.

I would check U-joints and/or front alignment for that vibration. Good to hear you're getting back in the game. I know it's hardtimes but things will eventually get better.

Found out Yesterday...my steering column may take up to 14-16 days to get here. Sucks! I already paid the ebay guy. The shipment time shows 4-6 days by UPS Ground...but i looked closer...Says it may take up to 10 days before shipping. Why do ppl do this? How about having it ready to ship, before you post it on Ebay? I can't stand ebayers that don't reply to emails...they ought to be band.

Sorry, just gets me. Anyways, waiting on my tilt steering.

If that 69 LWB has a 2 piece drive shaft check the condition of the carrier bearing as far as that vibration is concerned. Good luck Charles

Cost...

and did not want to mess with rewiring, someones already rewiring job...least not yet.

(only one wire to points distrib.)

It was already set up that for points.

Seemed the simplest. I only drive it occationally. Like 1 or 2 a month if that. Very unlikely I will ever have to regap them..and if so it's not hard. To me considering the time it would take to rewire the truck for electronic ignition and the 2-3 minutes it takes to regap, seemed more logical. Eventually when i have more cash flow..i will do with a electronic ignition with the coil on top. Seen those on ebay. No rewiring involved.

My column still has not come in. Having trouble getting seller to either send item or refund. Says she broke the first one and was gonna send me another(better) one. I have not seen either yet. If she dont work it out soon I will post her ebay name on here as lookout for ripp offs.

Sorry about your wife man. Sounds like you're hanging in there, good luck. If you don't get your column, post the seller's id so we can avoid them like you said. Maybe someone here has another one for you if that one ends up a bust. :)

I'm running a 351W, c-4 setup in my 69 shortbed. I went with the pertronix setup in the distributor to get rid of points, but to have minimal hassle. Stock look/setup, but with the benefits of electronic iginiton.

If you guys figure out a good way to run headers let me know. I've read everything here and its either custom make them, notch the passenger frame, or buy 2 sets and use a driver side from one set, and a passenger side from the other set.

Got my Column finally and had to wait for good weather. Got it installed except wiring...does not look too hard on wiring, thanks to kieth's diagrams.

I ended up redoing my u joints again. I changed drive shaft pieces...put new carry bearing in. Vibration is now minimal. Some of I think is due to the shocks being real bad and the rest is probably tire treads not being the same.

Now i have a water-pump issue. Leaking out the weep. So I have the pump, just need to put it in. Also have new timing gear and chain, but may not put them in. I may wait till next year and just rebuild it all together.

The tranny is sometimes slow to shift even after changing filter and fluid. Probably from sitting so long...it seems to be getting better slowly. May just take time and use.

My next step is to do the steering column wiring and make sure signals and all lights work. Thinking about adding an under-hood lamp (2 or 3) with a toggle switch and maybe even a lamp on each side of engine on firewall.
