A day at the shop that's gonna pay for itself!
I spent the day yesterday pulling the 390/T-18 from my '68 parts truck. This engine was assembled by the previous owner with a large collection of various FE parts from many different years, that include some of the following (that I've discovered so far):
- cylinder heads - C8AE-H
- intake manifold (4-bbl) - C5AE-9425-C
- distributor - DOZF-12127
- water pump - D4TE
- camshaft - B8A-6250
Anyway, out of curiosity I decided to post a message on the FordFE.com messageboard and ask some questions about the applications on the intake and cam. I just happened to mention the other parts in passing, just to illustrate the wide range of parts....and it was a good thing I did! Turns out I have a very rare distributor, only used for one year on the 428CJ/SCJ Mustangs, and is a highly sought-after piece by collectors because of the correct numbers stamped on it. Since I'm planning on going with a Duraspark setup, I wasn't even planning on using this distributor, and it was probably going to end up in a box somewhere as a backup. But I guess now I'll give it a light clean-up and list it on E-bay, see what the collectors say.
...and on April Fools Day of all days, too!

Congrats on that distributor, Keith. With that '58 part number on the cam, I'd suspect a 332/352 origin. Might even be out of an Interceptor.

On the dizzy, the last letter is the most important one to ID it.
D0ZF-12127-C is for a manual and G is an auto, both worth big bucks!
The cam has a lobe lift of .241/.244, for the 352 Ford and 361 Edsel.
Intake is nothing special, tall port '65 352/390.

Well, I just stopped by the shop and grabbed that distributor so I could clean it up a bit and get a better look at the numbers. Here's what I found:
It's for a 4-spd 428 CJ/SCJ....and the date codes are correct. It's a shame that when it was rebuilt the dual-point plate was replaced with a single-point setup, but the rest is still there. It's definitely going to finance some truck parts!

Awesome Keith! I wouldn't worry about the missing dual points, those can be replaced. The casting numbers are the most important thing to the restorers.

Well, I was going to list this on E-bay, but I already got an offer for it from one of the FordFE.com members....for $450 as-is, and have decided to accept the offer.
And I'll tell you what....because of this, I'm now a diehard believer in never assuming ANY part is something that's run-of-the-mill. From now on I will always do a quick check of part numbers and date codes on any parts vehicle (mostly on engine parts). You'll never know what'll you'll find. In fact, I'm going to run the numbers on the rest of this engine's parts, just in case the previous owner used other comparable pieces which might be worth more than the 'everyday' piece. Probably not....I'm sure I just used up about a year's worth of luck with this one, but hey...anything's possible, right?
I'm also going to sit down tonight and get some parts orders sent out, so that the money will be spoken for before it gets spent on trivial things, like food or bills. I was hoping to use this to pay for the SWB box that I've been talking with someone about, but I found out this morning that that particular rustfree box got crushed, 'cause nobody wanted it.

Man that is hard to believe on that Dist. That is a golden find. I need to start roaming the junk yard a little more to see if I can find one of those bad boys.
