Where is the reverse lights switch on a C6 equiped truck?

Post by dablack00 »

Ok guys. I never had reverse lights, but I didn't really worry about it. Now I've put in a new motor and trans and have reverse lights all the time. I know on the manual trucks there is a switch on the lever, but I thought on a C6 it was in the trans but I'm not sure. I pulled the little jumper wire from under the hood so the reverse lights would go away, but now I want them to work right and it is bothering me. It seams that now that I have a new motor and trans that I expect more out of the truck. Also, I have done a search and found lots of info on reverse lights but most of it was for the manual trans.

thanks

It's on top of the steering column under the dash.

Barry

"Are you gonna make it all 220?"
"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."

Now that is what I needed. I swapped over to a 79 tilt column so I don't know if I still have that or not. I will take a look in the morning.

thanks to both of you,

Ah, then you've got a slight problem, because '78-'79 columns have the switch at the shifter linkage on the side of the transmission, instead of at the base of the steering column. You're going to have to find a similiar year of truck to swipe the linkage and switch from. I think I have a picture of that somewhere around here, I'll do some poking around.

Found 'em. They were posted a while back on the FordFE.com forum and I saved these for reference for my own '79 tilt column swap.

This is the C6 shifter arm, which is where later models have their neutral safety switch. When you want to use a 78-79 tilt column you'll need to drill and tap the bosses and set up a neutral safety switch here.
