new gaskets/ignition

Post by boots »

Had a leaking head gasket, so I yanked her out to replace all top end gaskets, new ignition wires, coil, plugs, cap, rotor, and points. Also before I drop her back in im going to paint it. This was my first motor I took out by myself, and its going to be my first head gasket replacement. I just hope I dont screw anything up... Ill update when I finish.

I didnt get a complete set, just everything but distributor. The coil, pro MSD HEI cap and HEI wires were under 200.

Ahhh, you will do just fine. One thing to be anal about with the rear intake to block seal. They have a tendency to leak and sometimes bad. While tightening the intake keep checking that seal. Make sure it doesn't slip. After done take some extra sealent and smear it back there. I also smear a thin layer of sealer oround the water jackets holes on the intake gasket. Let it set up for a few minutes before putting the gasket on. Good luck, let us know.

Put the engine in yesterday, today I spent some time putting it together, I have to hook up the clutch pedal linkage, then bolt up radiator, add fluids and then get my coils and wires from jegs.
