Road worthy or bust II.

Post by Kurt Combs »

Well the engine is back together and sounds really good. I had a few problems along the way, such as not connecting a wire and discovering that the distributor was junk, but it was all worth it. I can't drive it yet as there is no seat in the truck. Next week I will have some more time I can spend on this project and I will replace part of the driver's side floorboard and put a seat cover on the seat and reinstall it. I have also discovered that the gas pedal is broken under the firewall insulation pad, so that means another excuse to head off to the wrecking yard. If I can accomplish all of that in the next week, It should be in pretty good shape. Then I can tackle the water temperature and alternator guages that don't work. I am suspicious that there is a wiring problem under the dash, but first I have to get this thing running so I can use it as a truck. Pictures to follow!

Cost to date: Truck $400; hoses, gaskets, etc., $500; used heads, $100; exhaust manifolds, $80; floorboard, $50; machine shop work, $100.

After another trip to the wrecking yard I managed to get the part I need for $10. A half hour and it was completely installed. Floorboard and seat to follow next week. :)
