This set shows the hinges and the last one is another shot of the body lines.

That truck is going to turn out great. Now is the exciting time, reassembly. I am sure it is for you too Shark. This is the best reality show on tv right now. Now there's another idea!

Looks like it is turning out really nice. I do see the color differences, is it that noticeable in person or does the camera make it more noticeable? Anyhow, when you put another coat on it, seems like it should disappear like your saying.

Yup, its that noticable in person. Maybe it will get darker as it cures (The cab was shot several months ago and my son swears it wasnt that dark when I first painted it) But even if it doesnt. Im still gonna paint one more coat just to cover some thin spots and corect some missed dings.dotcentral wrote:Looks like it is turning out really nice. Update:
Wideguage dropped by today and helped me get several days worth of work done in just a couple of hours. (Thanks Dude! Hope the hinges work out for your 72 project)
We got the core support and inner fenders (aprons) on. But first we had to lift the engine and install the headers.

Another update:
After Wideguage left today, I couldnt stand it anymore so I put the front fenders on. Its starting to at least look like a truck again.

How many coats of clear? And i too notice when i'd paint mine with the rattle cans i'd get the dreaded shade dfifference both between batches and if i let more than a day between coats.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

re: 70 F-250 cab swap - Continued
Had a friend stop over yesterday after work so I could help him put new left side door hinges on his 92 F150. He paid me a few bucks and helped me put the hood on my 70 in exchange so now I can scratch water pump, and black engine enamel off my list.
Also, I took on a side job patching a leak on a tar and gravel roof this week end. That should help pay for my door run channels if bills dont eat that up first. So thats what Ill be doing on Saturday.
Best news of the week for me?:
My firewall cover has been ordered and is on the way to me as I type this. Should be here some time next week.
I will post pix of the hood installed this week end and of the firewall cover when it arrives.

Sharkdance, nice looking truck you got going. I like the weatherstripping tutorial you did, cause i am getting ready to do mine on the truck. But I do have one question and maybe i missed it early on but your making that truck look real nice and all, so why haven't you painted the engine?

layedout72,
Yup, they sure do!
And I owe a lot of it to this website and the fantastic folks that hang out here.
alvinator,
Yea, someone else asked that question in an earlier thread.
No problem though because you have spurred me into at least cleaning and painting the valve covers before I finish this truck.
I know it looks ugly, But that FE runs great! And the reason I haven't spent any time detailing it is because anything I do to that engine is going to be temporary.
For right now my goal is to get this truck back on the road so I can be driving it while I build up a 410 out of the donor trucks engine. Thats the one I will devote my attention to when the time comes. Its sitting in my garage on an engine stand right now because I wont be able to start on it till next year but I need my truck to drive now.
This way when Im done building the 410 and the 360 gets tired, I can just swap them out with minimal down time.

re: 70 F-250 cab swap - Continued
Its raining here. So I used the downtime to install my new WP and spruce up the engine a little. I painted the block as well as I could with black engine enamel and the WP with some Cast Iron Grey.
Next I installed all of the accesory brackets and hung the Alt, PS, and AC.
That made the valve covers look even worse. So off they came.
I thought it would be fun to paint them green to go with the new color of the truck. So I had a can of engine enamel called Grabber Green. It was a horrible almost neon green! Looked more like it belonged on a ricer rather than a Ford Truck. So they turned out to be Cast Grey. Doesnt look too bad.
I snapped a couple of pix of how clean that FE is inside while the VCs were off. Thats one good runnin FE. So you guys were right, it deserved a little clean-up.
