I,ve probably got a couple of hundred bucks in the whole thing, but I'll have alot of paint left over. I had to order in the regal red in gallons because nobody stocked gallons around here. I ordered 2 gallons so I would have plenty. I just opened the second and all thats left is the doors which won't take very much. I also used a couple of spray cans for hard to reach areas like the stake pockets and the door sills then rolled over the top as close as possible. I like the blue and white combo, should look sharp! The best advise I could give is get alot of wet-dry sandpaper and wet sand between each coat. You don't have to get it "glass smooth" on each coat but just even out the rough spots and give it some tooth. Also figure on putting on more coats than you'd think so you have plenty down to wet sand well at the end for the final finish.

A little update. I haven't got much done lately as my "helper" went on vacation with his mother. They went to Oklahoma with her aunt and uncle for a family reunion. I'm headed down to Cheyenne today to pick them up, about a 250 mile drive one way. I'll be taking the camera and hope to take take some pics of the bumps I see along the way, if the "travelers" let me.

I got a little work done on the pass door this weekend. I stripped the door and finished smoothing the outside. I decided to rattlecan the inside of the because I think it would end up smoother and be easier. I'll roll the outside of the doors while they are mounted on the truck. I also noticed that forgot to order new window channels, so got them ordered from LMC. I'll post the pics when both doors are done.

looking good. yeah matching(closely will work) spray paint is good for the nooks and hard to reach crannies.

Got the 2nd two coats rolled on this morning, also the window channels from LMC came in yesterday. I got up early and did it before it got too hot, supposed to be close to 100 degrees today! I should get the last two coats on this evening. :woohoo:  I'll still have some wrenching to do but "the end is near"!

how do you manage to get such a good paintjob using rollers? i though there would be lines. Is there a special way to not get any lines from the roller? Thanks

It's all in how the paint is mixed with mineral spirits. I measure the paint by using small Dixie cups, usually one cup paint with one cup spirits, sometimes depending on the temp 1 to 3/4 or so. With the paint that thin it sort of self-levels. As for lines and roller marks I wet sand between each two coats, sometimes I'll just dry sand lightly to keep everything even and save time. You have to remember, this is no "show car" paint job, it CAN turn out REALLY smooth if you wet sand and use a electric buffer after the final layer has dried a couple of days. I did that with the hood and it turned out "glass" smooth, just didn't want to do that with the entire pickup (lazy).

I ordered the Rustoleum paint through a local hardware store just because HomeDepot wouldn't special order any color they don't stock. :x So now I go to the "little guy" first for everything.
