Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-2-2010, PARTS TRUCK!)
Well yesterday I talked to my friend that had the 70 F100 that broke down and had a brick thrown at the windshield. Said we would bring it over to my house Friday so I can get the stuff I want off it.
So I started with removing the good pieces of trim off my bed.
Today we got the truck over here so the fun started.
First my brother undid all the bolts holding the bed on except the two closest to the axle and one right behind the cab. (That one just spun, and the other two couldn't get a impact on them) So the two by the axle I cut the heads off the bolts.
Then the tire was taken off the passenger side so the legs of the engine crane would fit. I used two 2x4s at each lift point so I could lift the bed as even as I could. Even with the 2x4s doubled up they bowed a bit. Then we realized we missed two bolts at the very front of the bed. After getting those out the bed was free. Moved it over and sat it on some blocks for the time being,
The cross member on the part of the bed that is right behind the cab was completely rusted out. The one bolt that just spun pulled right through it.
The frame rails are a bit rusty under the bed. No pitting tho, just surface rust. Should clean up with a wire wheel.
Stuff coming off the parts truck...
Driveshaft, passenger side inner fender, alternator, battery cables and starter relay, radius arm crossmember, bed and tailgate, at least one of the grille inserts. Maybe the radiator support.

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-2-2010, PARTS TRUCK!)
So today I got the beds swapped around. The 70 bed on my 72 looks good.
First two pics are the only rust spots on the bed.
The 70 bed after getting it off the truck. Looks weird to have two trucks with no beds.
Frame on the 70.
When the hitch was welded up someone left a C clamp behind.
My 72 bed sitting on the 70.
Another angle. Had a weird feeling of deja vu.
Sitting the 70 bed on my 72.
Another angle.
As far as getting more stuff off the parts truck...
I removed the door panels, I plan to use them on my truck. I also removed the grille inserts and the only headlight door. Might try to sell one of the inserts and the headlight door. I also took the exhaust system off the 70.
Monday I plan on pulling the passenger side inner fender and hood. I think I will pull the entire front clip minus the radiator support. Ill take that off after it is driven onto the trailer to haul it.
I wish I could use the cab. It is nicer then mine except the broken windshield. But that would be a lot of work.

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-3-2010, bed swap)
That was a good idea for pulling the bed, when I did mine it was me, my brother, dad, and mom all lifting it off the frame. I could have done it by myself though, I got some muscle.

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-7-2010)
So the parts truck went to the scrap yard Tuesday morning. I sold the passenger door and seat and shift rod out of it.
Here is what all I pulled off...
The bed, tailgate, hood, inner fenders, grille inserts, gauge cluster, sill plates, door panels, screw clips for door panels, grille valance (upper and lower) air cleaner, throttle return spring and bracket, spark plug wires, gas tank, driveshaft, and radius arm crossmember.
Parts truck before I took the radiator support and passenger inner fender off.

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-7-2010)
Today I started putting the top end on my motor. Heads, lifters, pushrods all installed. I still have a few odd things to get like a temp sensor, oil pressure sender, hose that goes between the intake and water pump. In the pics the intake is just set on to show it off, headers are not permanently installed either.
Parts off the 70 F100.
Ever see a spacer on a alternator like this?

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-14-2010)
So today..
I had the alternator from the parts truck tested.
I installed the alternator and alternator bracket. Also cleaned up and painted the spacers for mounting.
Did the same for the power steering bracket, installed it.
Installed the motor mounts.
Installed the oil pressure sender, and water temp sender. Also installed the thermostat.
Painted the other valve cover and have them sitting on the engine. Will install tomorrow.
Went to Lowes and got a fitting for the water pump for the heater hose.
Got a fuel pump and put it on.
Whats left to do on the engine its self..
Plugs, wires, distributor, mount coil.
Ford kickdown on the carb.
Clean and paint air cleaner housing.
Install oil filter

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (update 4-14-2010)
Over the weekend I went down to Summit. I got a kickdown spring bracket for the carb and a assortment of throttle lever studs. (Dont have a dentside rod yet so I dont know what size I will need) Also got a fuel line for the Holley, and a shaft to prime the oil pump and a one piece oil pan gasket. Last but not least I got a engine lifting plate.
Got the oil pan gasket on, and the harmonic balancer mounted, and the crankshaft and water pump pulleys mounted.
