Went and looked at perfect tailgate 2 or three days ago. I can't seem to connect up with the guy that owns it. He's a friend of a friend of a friend. He's got some land out in the country with around 8 or 10 ford trucks parked there. Only 2 bump sides though. I went there looking for a fender and found a cherry tailgate. No rust, no dents, it barely looks like it was ever used. Now I'm having a hard time getting ahold of the guy to see what he'd take for it :(

Looks great to me. Are you going to paint your truck that same Hunter green?

Yes, the only other red truck I owned I had nothing but trouble with. Biggest POS ever built. Well, really I was looking for a darker shade that would cover well and hide my mistakes. Also wanted to stay away from a custom mixed color. Still trying to decide how this will work on the interior. Maybe a combination of roller and rattle can? My wife and kids says with green outside and red inside it would look like a lizard every time I open the door.

Here's a update, I just got all the parts to start painting the 71 4x4! :D I ordered everything from LMC Truck. All new weatherstripping, front and rear window seals, vent window seals, side window anti-rattle kit, gas tank grommet, side window glass(for the 71 XLT), and a lot more little stuff. I feel like a kid at Christmas time! Almost hugged the UPS man. Now if spring will hurry up and get here I can get started!

I forgot to say I won't be going with the Hunter Green color, instead I'm going to use Rustoleum "Regal Red". I think it will match the red interior pretty close and is an "off the shelf" color so should be no issues with touch-ups down the road.

Here's a little update and some pics of the tailgate i will use on the F250. Good solid tailgate (71 Ranger) with some minor surface rust and one little dent below the handle. Here's how I pulled the dent out without using a dent puller or drilling holes.

Looks good. Nice use of nails and a hammer. A lot better than drilling holes in it.

I'm going to revive this post as I started the body work on the 4x4. After I decided to part out the 71 XLT, I pulled both front fenders and the right inner fender. Got them cleaned up and sanded down and the few minor dents pounded out as best as I could. Smoothed things out with alittle body putty then primered. Looks pretty good considering. I'll post some pics of the progress so far as soon as this spring blizzard blows through. Like I said before, I decided to use Rustoleum Regal Red paint. It's a fairly close match to the color thats on there now. It's supposed to be Candy Apple Red but I'm pretty sure it's been repainted at least once and don't know. I'll also repaint the box on my two-wheeled trailer and use it on the 4x4 as it's in way better shape, it should be fairly simple to repaint it. (I hope!) Should have some pics in a few days.

Another little update just so you'all don't think i quit. :D I've been stripping the parts truck as much as possible, got the instrument panel, O.E. radio, light switch, the heads from the engine, all the new parts I bought to try to get the parts truck running (coil, fuel pump, etc), and anything else I can think I may need someday. Wanted to pull the engine and save it but I have no place to store it, so saved the heads and intake. I have to get the parts truck out of here before the neighbors lynch me! I wish I could keep it around longer, I know theres more parts I'll probably need someday but space is at a premium around my place. I hope to start painting in the next week or two if the weather cooperates. :D
