just a minor update. i've been trying out 3M undercoating in the engine bay because i like the texture. only problem is it scratches easily. great idea for undercoating huh? here is a picture of the inner fender.

Re: 69 stepside (warning: big pictures)
hey guy's, I'm back. been saving up cash for the past few months and made a tool run. went to harbor freight (yes i know you have to be carful) and got some air tools, a 2-ton engine houst, and a longer hose but the oxy acetylene torch. i also got a better sandblaster.
now for the progress. i've got the grill ready to prime, the right rear fender is almost done with metal work, and i've got the engine pulled to work on the frame.
here's a close up of the frame after sandblasting. the blaster makes light work of it as long as there it's too much grease.

Re: 69 stepside (warning: big pictures)
it was raining for most of the day so i didn't really get anything done but i took a few pictures.
a random picture of misc. parts inside the garage. the hood center in the piece with the tape on it, the right rear fenders is almost done. my mig and "metal" cut-off saw are also in here and the new exaust pipe is along side it.
new radiator
muffler and exhaust tip. the pipe will exit behind the diff. needs to be welded.
back of the right hand i-beam. it's been coated with mystery-coating. i'll have to get the label sometime for the name.
i-beam again. got a few spots i need to go back and get. i'm going to pull the drum and backing plate to get a few spots. the drum will be primed.
close up of the coating. shiny
that's it for now. i might get some more done before the weekend. pity it won't be done before i turn 18...

Re: 69 stepside update 02-26(warning: big pictures)
got a little bit done in between school and work so i thought i'd throw some pictures up.
started to strip the frame and undercoat it.
a closer picture
i've also cleaned both front drums and painted them with high temp grill paint in hopes they won't peel.
and the finished wheel. i need to get a picture of it out in the sun so i can get rid of some of the camera shake. it's flanked by my almost ready to paint grill and seat on one side. i'm slowly taking over the garage!
close up of the spindle that's been coated. the backing plate is back on and is coated.
here's the inside of the cab with the floor partially stripped. it's going to be coated and then i'm going to get rubber mats to put in.
dash
i'm hoping to have all/most of the frame coated by march 8th. after that is done, i'll get the fire wall and the bottom of the cab coated and possibly replace the cab mounts.

Re: 69 stepside update 02-25 (warning: big pictures)
Snow killed my last weekend but it was 75 and sunny out the last couple days. i've got the cab slid back and got more of the frame coated.
we were thinking about shortening the frame to have the cab sit a little further than this but we figured it may be a bit unsafe.
it would make a neat short(er) bed though.
that's all for now.

almost forgot to post the pictures of my front wheel. i painted the brake drum with high temp flat black and used the "locking" lug nuts that came with the mags. i will be changing out the center cap , possibly to a chrome one.

finished coating the bottom of the front cross member. i used 3m rubberized undercoating in a spray can due to the inconvenience of using a brush. i'll have pictures of that up tomorrow when it's light out. i also installed the pass. side ibeam. i'll sand blast the spring and paint it some time soon and then i can have that whole side done.

It's lookin good! I have to admit, when you first posted I thought to myself "Boy, that needs a lot of work. I hope it doesn't end up in pieces and tossed aside like so many other projects wind up." But it makes me happy to say congrats on your progress and just keep on going! When it's all done you will have quite a set of bragging rights. Just make sure you keep "before" pictures in the truck to show people! They won't believe it.

Looking good, keep on and keep having fun on the build it's self. It's SOOOOOOOOO much more when you did it yourself. BTW, 300s R awesome! I'm going to repower my dent side LWB with one after I get everything swapped to the 69.

you mean this
yea, it was kinda rough to start out with. i'm thinking about buying an f600 and using the doors and front fenders to replace the ones i have. don't know what i will do about the VIN though....
i would remove/cut down the running board part or possibly tie them into the rear steps. i thought that would look sharp.

cool stuff when your don i have a 72 needin' tlc. BTW on the vintag thing if the f600's door is going on yours you csn legaly swap the vin between the doors. in oklahoma the lady inspecting my vin looked for the sticker on the rear pillar, she siad that after 30+ years the door was the likeliest to be changed of the two.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

heh, i dunno. i'm looking at buying a f600 in TN for $800 and making it into a roadster out of what's left. it would be defiantly different.rjewkes wrote:cool stuff when your don i have a 72 needin' tlc. I mean if you put the 600's doors on your truck swap your vin plate to the f600 doors and then move the 600's vin to whatever doors you use on it. Unless your just going to use the f600 as it sits.
I took your first post to mean the doors and fenders from the f600 was destined for your current truck.
