Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

There is NOTHING wrong with the man staying home with the kids-I do everyday. I also own my own catering business, and my wife makes VERY close to 6 figures on her own! I would rather stay home and RAISE my own kids than to have some wierdo that I really dont know raising my kids the way 'THEY' feel fit. My wife's mothers' son is 'OLD FASHION' and feels since he makes the money,he has the right to have what ever he wants. He does NOTHING around the house...total loser in my eyes.

but i also agree if a women can have a successful career giving a father a equal/more/less successful job that he gets to see his children more often has brought families closer.as long as the women is still home with the kids.....if she is working all the time than she has taken the place of how men were...just my :2cents:

This was never a serious issue in our house when I was growing up. Dad worked, Mom worked. My 3 sisters did the housework, I did the yardwork. Dad was the head of the household and mom had the final say when she wanted to have the final say. My sisters are all college grads with careers and children and their "balance of power" is exactly the same and all their kids are doing fine. I think my folks, and the parents of all the kids I grew up with, were too busy making a living and raising their kids to worry about gender roles.

I think this sums it up pretty good about the way things use to be and still should be.

I take care of my wife and she takes care of me. I do things with her that she likes (I may not like them at all) but in return I get to have her with me doing the things I like. I treat her like the Queen, she treats me like the King. She gets all my attention when we're around each other, and when we're not. She thinks I hung the moon, or at least she thinks I physically could have. She truly believes that I am the toughest, strongest, gentlest, man she knows...mainly because through 21 years of marriage she has seen it in action- that and being a Soldier helped out a lot. I also think highly of her. She is my confidant, my one and only lover, mother of our children, keeper of the house, best cook, etc. She rocks. We did not get to this point by putting ourselves first...we did it thru teamwork and truly wanting, desiring to put the other first. I wouldn't change it for anything.
We eat supper together with our kids and talk about our days. When our kids screw life up (and they do indeed do that) we stand beside them and help them pick up the pieces...even when we totally disagree with their actions and choices we still stand beside them to remind them that we got their back. We are not perfect, but we make it work.
I think the biggest problem is that most go into marriage these days already thinking that divorce is an option...therefore when chaos comes to the marriage (it comes in many forms), one of the options is divorce. Not working it out, building each other up, re-affirming love for one another, etc. Therefore, the "man" is lessened- if he can't keep his family together, what can he do? Maybe he can excel at beer and stupidity, so he goes for it...which leads to the demise of "The Man".

Good topic. Now-a-days everyones cheating on each other with their husbands or wife's best friends. What has America come to? When I get married, my wife will NOT be going out drinking at night-clubs with her girl-friends unless I have eyes at the club. Too many better looking guys fishing with bigger poles to let my wife go out and get obliterated drunk while I'm not around. Just my .02

Hahaha I didn't mean it that way; simply a figure of speech. I'm 23, I don't need the drug for a few years.
