Eh, thats not all bad. Wait till you have to pull the cab off the truck to do any major engine work on a 6.4L. The 6.0 are cake to work on, once you learn the little tricks to everything. The new 6.7L is even worse for stuff under the hood, it uses a water to air intercooler instead of an air to air, and it takes up a good chunk of space.

I'm an apprentice diesel tech at a ford dealership, so sometimes i get stuck with the work no one else wants to do.

I was referring to the bigger ones, like medium duty, and heavy duty not having glow plugs. A DT466 (for example)can start down to 0* without assistance from pre-heaters or ether.

Ive got a Cat3406b and it will start on its own at -10* without being pluging it in, but its hard on a diesel to do that and dosent make good since not to plug it in a coulple hours before starting.

I tell ya what. I know it aint a big bad diesel, but the ol stroke has been a good one so far. Mine would fire without too but I appreciate my expensive starter more than treat it like that.

As long as you don't complain, at least too much, you'll always have work. :) I've been in the trade 30+ years and work for a dealer selling Peterbilt and International trucks. I get all the junk that nobody else wants to work on. Step vans, car carriers, rear engine busses or whatever. Same goes for driving them. New Pete tractor needs a road test? No problem, anyone will take it. Overloaded 20 year old Paystar log truck that's been rolled over and repaired a few times? Go find Clay, he'll drive it.
