Soon it will be time to put on long pants and hang the lights in the palm tree.
If the definition of crazy is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result " It would certainly explain why I keep buying these old Fords

Only if you're in NY, shotgun/muzzleloader is opening up tomorrow, so about 4:45 AM tomorrow I'll be setting in the tree stand for the first time this season(with a shotgun that is, bow season didn't amount to much67mann wrote:Bring it onbut first it's Bow season(sat.)
and then the snow can come for shotgun and muzzleloader

That's how the whole NW is pretty much, especially west of the cascades. Lots and lots of rain in winter though. And in the Rare occasion of snow, we get our roads sprinkled with lava gravel from the cascades for traction, so no rust.
If we want to play in the snow, that usually means a trip to the mountains.
I have only read in kids storybooks about a white christmas. But my grandparents took a picture of one here in 1980, 30 years ago. I wonder if this year the planets and stars will align just right and we will have one again.

Re: Getting ready for winter
Winter prep list for me is well under way. Dug out winter clothes - check, dug out shovels - check, dug out sand weights for the DD - check, drained pressure washer - check, serviced furnace - check. Stuff left to do, swap tires on DD, new battery for DD, mow grass for last time this year. I'm considering buying a snow blower too. I've had back problems and shoveling hurts worse every year. Supposed to be nice tomorrow so my 72 will be out for what will likely be it's last ride until spring rolls around again.
For those considering waste oil furnces keep in mind they consume a lot of oil or at least the commercial ones do. Contaminated oil creates major problems as does oil storage. At the dealer we have 3 furnaces and about 9500 gallons in tanks. As long as we stay busy we'll be okay but if it slows down the boss will have to buy oil around mid Febuary or so. The scrap yard has 1 furnace at the building where I work. Have about 3000 gallons in totes but we'll be hauling it from other locations toward the end of winter.
BTW, I still like winter. There is something about a walk on a clear, quiet, bitter cold night that appeals to me.
Oh and driving in snow is fun too.

Once upon a time I was on Navy Recruiting duty at Glendale Az. It actually snowed. Well you had to look fast the flakes melted as they hit. Two seasons there, Hot
and hotter.

Re: Getting ready for winter
I grew up and lived 35yrs in Lower Michigan, winters grew old after a while it seems like they last forever. They salt the crap out of the roads now I hear they use sugarbeet juice also,I have no idea how that melts snow or ice. I put my 68 away in the garage as soon as we got the first measureable snow and uusually it stayed in the garage till at least the 1st of April. Thirty years ago I moved to Central Fl. I don't drive my 68 a whole lot in the summer due it being black and no a/c but the winters here are a great time to drive it. when the weather gets cooler there are a lot of old car and truck shows, cruises, swapmeets that go on in the winter time.I don't drive it on the beach so it stays pretty much rust free. I see licence plates from a lot of nothern states down in the winter on old cars,I guess the snow bird old car guys trailer them down for the winter.
