I've always thought it would be funny to change the D and the F and have it spell DORF!!

I couldn't agree more--especially as a subtle and wacky finishing touch on a show-quality restoration!batterzazu wrote:I've always thought it would be funny to change the D and the F and have it spell DORF!!

Re: To FORD or not to FORD
Not many cars and trucks out there have emblems on the hood anymore. And the holes look really bad without emblems. I think you should keep them.

Re: To FORD or not to FORD
I welded the seam and shaved the side and front emblems on one once.
I'm in Michigan and pot metal gets pitted by the salt. I think it looks smooth kind of like a "73-"77 hood.
I'm not opposed to the letters though , if I had the money for nice ones I'd keep them on.

Re: To FORD or not to FORD
I did not click on the poll cause I have mixed feelings on this one. Let me explain my scitzoid philosify.
Left brain thinking:
If you want the stock look with all the trim, you MUST have the FORD to complete the look.
Right brain thinking:
If you want the de-trimmed look, then the FORD must be GONE to complete the look.
Wet brain thinking:
Everybody knows we drive FORD trucks. They're so old and so cool that everybody just knows it's a FORD truck. We don't need to advertize or even brag.
Anybody that sees our old truck and wonders, "What is that?", will ask us, "What is that?"
Then there are the few who don't know and don't care what it is. Even if it does say FORD, they won't notice and most certainly, won't be impressed.
The only person here who is impressed, is you, the owner of that cool old FORD. And what makes your cool old FORD truck so much cooler than all the other cool old FORD trucks, is that it is your cool old FORD truck.
My 70 came de-trimmed but still had the ORD. F was missing and R was upside down. But the letters had been painted so now that I've removed them it still says FORD in some old color the truck once was.

Re: To FORD or not to FORD

All I can say is mine are staying. But mine is pretty much a stock
truck. Which needs a paint job..

Re: To FORD or not to FORD
I want to put mine back on just because people tell me why did you put a ford motor on you cheby.
They must think that it's a cheby because they assume no body mods up fords.

Re: To FORD or not to FORD
I say keep them. IMO they look great there, if you were doing a custom truck and were shaving everything and filling seams then it wouldn't look out of place but personally I prefer the look of the emblems.

I think I will keep them, but I have to get the plastic inserts that hold the letters in now.

I wanna pinstripe them on in calligraphy preceded by "power by." keep them for me but I voted get rid of because I want them done differently. I don't like the styling of the letters. I love what they stand for.

Next time that happens, give them a blank stare sort of like you are looking through them, and quietly mutter "nucking futters". Then ignore them and walk away.
That, or tell them, "Yeah, I put a chevy engine under the hood once, but it kept throwing rods so I had to put the Ford engine back in to make the truck behave."
