This last weekend I was out wheelin in some snow with my '69 4x4 and was being a little careless with my right foot and high centered it and broke the rear drive shaft in half. Had to get pulled out of the hole I was in and drove her home on ice and snow 10 miles with the front axle. Welded a new end on a spare shaft I had yesterday and threw it in last night and Im going back up wheelin this weekend.
Honestly, I really would rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy.

Nice work Ryan!

I like jeeps. I don't have one, and never have. But I still like them, and think about getting one. '05 or '06 Rubicon unlimited, would be perfect for my girlfriend, and our dogs.
But it has to have sliding windows in the hard top, or the Super-Mutts would never approve...
I have a Scout 800 with a V8 now. It's pretty fun. And I'm working on a hardtop with sliding windows for it. :D

Thing is as the jeep gets newer there is more electyricals that can get wet and short in 4+ feet of water. also i'll bet the starter was right in the water when he tyried to start it.

of course. the water was FAR past the starter. It fired right up after the water drained out overnight

Starter wasn't engaging for whatever reason. most likely combination of freezing cold/muddy water/trying to start underwater.

Part 2!

I was in the pits at a race at our local OHV park and was about to leave. Then a crowd started gathering along the fence looking out at the 4x4 section. The crowd is getting pretty big so i figure theres some cool rig over there.
When i get over there, what i see is incredible. One jeep, axle deep in mud and high centered on a bad rut. AND in a drop-down area (big ditch where the mud is).
There is a jeep trying to pull him out. First off he's using a chain. i don't do chains... when they break, it's bad.
Second, the jeep guy trying to pull the other jeep guy, is backing up and lunging. I go do something else and then my dad informs me that the jeeps bumper ripped off. lol lol lol lol
at least the chain didnt kill someone.

I had enough and drove out to the street and drove over to the 4x4 part and told the people at the gate i was on a jeep recovery mission, got in for free, got over to them, hooked the highboy up with my tow strap and had him out in 5 seconds.

I am just as curious as you are with this picture.

Its always funny when the old Ford has to save the newer vehicle. Your highboy is killer Ryan. Did you tell the two guys you pulled out to get a real off road machine like your highboy?

lol yeah i'm going to have my dad make a "jeep recovery vehicle" sticker to slap on the flatbed somewhere. Mainly because two of my buddies i go off-roading with have jeeps lol

Nope i just told them that i didn't want there money but i did want a picture of my ford pulling out another jeep and that it would be all over the internet.

Funny thing is that the stuck jeep had a very cool oldschool warn winch. Yet nothing to hook it to. So his buddy, in one of their attempts, tried at the end of the entire mud pit so that the stuck jeep could winch over to him, using the running jeep as an anchor. Why you would try to use a vehicle the same weight as yours when there is a massive mud pit in front of you is beyond me.

:yt: Owning both a highboy and a 2000 Cherokee XJ I have to say the same thing. As for 4x4's I've owned an 83 Ramcharger, 79 Bronco, 84 Bronco II, 89 Amigo, my crew, and my 2000 XJ. All of them got a serious off road work out and I have to say that the XJ is the most capable 4x4 that I've ever owned. HOWEVER, I try not to mess with the mud. I do mostly rock crawling type trails and the XJ is like a little mountain goat. It surprises me every time I go wheelin'.

If I liked to play in serious mud and tight little rocky trails were not my thing, I'd find a beat down highboy, put some lockers in it, put some 38's on it and go to town. :2cents:
