Thats because it costs money to transport the scrap to the coast so they can ship it to China.

I cleaned out the shop the other day, sorted through the drop pile next to the saw and hauled a 1/2 of a pickup load of steel down to the lowest paying (closest to me) place in town and put $77 in my pocket.

That F-350 likely weighs around 4000-5000 depending on if there's an engine in it.

I love those trucks, but the fact is most people don't. A really premo one is a $5000 truck and most of them have beat up beds from hauling campers and 5th wheel trailers. The beds can be worth a lot to someone in need, but 73-75 used one bed, 76-77 used one bed and 78-79 used a diferent one as well. The odds are pretty slim of finding the right one.

I need the racetrack trim for the passenger bedside on my dad's 77 Super Camper Ranger. Probably never find that.

It's tragic. Up here in the Northeast that truck would, at the very least, be parted out for the cab and front clip. Everything we have is rusted through. Fenders, rad supports, hoods...you could easily make back the $600 if you were in PA, NY, or NJ. But the problem is getting it here.

My buddy in AZ that got my my Bump, we've been thinking about setting up a business to save parts off of old trucks and ship it to the Northeast. Not whole trucks, just fenders, hoods, etc. He needs a piece of land he can store stuff on, though.
