I've had my 71 over 100 maybe once and the main thing that kept going through my mind was the hood latch. I just never do trust it even though it has a secondary latch. Every time I close it I always pull up and push down on it several times. I have seen three 67-72's on the side of the road with the hood bent over the cabs.

Never thought of that. I keprt thing about deer running out infront of me or a cop. I think the speed limit on that road is 45mph.

Are you spying on me? My friggin hood came up at 70mph on the freeway yesterday. It was a tad startling to say the least. Hood didn't fair too bad. Of course the hinges are gone, but all in all, could have been much worse...like a firey crash into the divider.

Going to have to say I've seen AT LEAST 10 members on here say they're hood just flew up on the free way. Pretty crazy. Now I always double check the hood after closing, and NEVER let anyone close my hood.

As for doing 130 in a bump that is absolutely insane lol

Yep, letting someone else close it was my issue. At least he was with me when it happened and I got to hear him squeal in fear like a 10 year old girl.
Since I am hijacking...
I've done a buck seventeen in this....in the sand. It feels a tad squirrely, but it's over in just a few seconds, so it does not give you a lot of time to think "this is stupid, this is stupid, this is stupid".

HA!!! Five-stars. Always look for the benefit in every situation, right?

I saw a video of either that vehicle, or one just like it, that you posted in another thread, and it looked truly insane!

Woods, you're an entertaining writer!!! I can relate to that mental "this is stupid, this is stupid" alarm. :)

Sorry about that! I hope I didn't jinx you. lol
That jeep sand rail thing looks wicked. I would ride in that in a second bad back and all and gladly pay the fiddler later.
Sorry about the hood. I have been lucky but I ALWAYS double check it and close it myself. If somebody else closes it I open it and close it myself and laugh about the funny look they give me.
Wish you were closer as I know I have a set of hinges and springs around here.
Thing is the latch mechanism has a pretty decent secondary latch on there. I wonder if they fail due to an alignment problem or what. Oh and sorry to continue the highjack. lol

I believe the secondary latch should be able to hold the hood down even at a high rate of speed if it is taken care of and aligned correctly.
Taken care of as in the latching mechanism is lubed up regularly , which i assume 99% of guys on here (including me) don't do.

I have a hidden chain and lock on my hood. Keeps my battery away from sticky fingers, and helps keep the hood from flying up on me.

Man, must be something wrong with Babydoll!!! ONE time I dicided to see what she would do. It figured out to be about 98mph. Cant remember the RPMs but I didnt make sure that the speedometer was correct. Thats all she had. Scary enough though, the truck rode very rough at that speed. I thought that was pretty good until now, 98 seems slow as compared to some of your trucks. But im running a well worn 360/NP435 and 3.25s and 235/70/15s.

Speeding is frowned upon because it's deadly. My cousin was a passenger in a car with 3 other people that ran into the back of a semi. It wasn't pretty. They used to use a picture of the wreck in driver's ed classes.
