If it's not a first car and she knows what she wants, then yeah, I would probably look somewhere else. Even when I bought my Focus I ordered it with every option available to make it atleast somewhat decent. The only two options I passed on was the automatic and the homelink stuff that controls your garage door or something.

To bring this one to a close:

My Daughter took delivery of a shiny new VW Jetta TDI yesterday. It has the DSG which is the same concept as the Ford dual clutch.

That's a great car. My buddy got one for his Wife. I drove it last week. The thing handled great and had some pretty good 'zip' to it. Of course, I'm not brand loyal to anything and I don't think a gas engine should even be an option in new cars anymore. So, that's a bit biased. Used to be that they were a bit of a dog, but now they make some real rockets AND get great mpg.

I really hope it gives her good service.

I really think ford is missing out on small diesels in the US.

Apologies in advance for the cell phone picture:

Nice looking.
Yeah, one of my favorite rigs was a Toyota Hilux (Tacoma) with a little diesel in it. That was a bit old tech, but wow did it get mpg. I would love to have a new smaller truck with one of the newer hot diesels in it. That would be a blast.

like all mfg's ford is worried about minimum cafe standards. they sell lots of f150s and diesels are still considered "dirty" here in the states for some reason.
vw can get away with it because all of their cars get 30+ mpg's.
name another car mfg'r that sells pickups that also sells a diesel car.

Toyota, Ford, Chevy, Mercedes, and Nissan just to name a few, but not over here. 30 mpg is considered very low for a dirt burner in other countries. The newer Audi A8 diesel is a big car by today's standards, gets from 0 to 60 in in 5.1 and quarter mile at 13.5 and reeled in 40.4 mpg on an 800 mile, one tank of fuel drive. But for some reason, this is a 'dirty' car over here.

Yeah and it's still new isn't it? It will get even better. Very cool though.

The Jetta has good reviews, I am sure it will be a very reliable ride.
