427, sorry to hear about your tranny. Lots of folks around here still run the older (70'-80's) JD mowers & they just keep on ticking.

I have a '81 OTASCO push mower & a late 80's Murry rider, both are good homeowner machines. They just wont quit. The OTASCO mower is still on points ignition!

They just dont build them like they use to that's for sure.

For me we do commercial property care. I run the bobcat and exmark deck mowers with the Kawasaki motors and I get about 5 years before changing the motors. Then go about another 5 before retiring the machine. The other motors such as kohler and so on are throw aways maybe get 2 years at the most. As for the price of the deck mower I spend around $3,200.00

My oil-less compressor broke one piston halfway through sanding my truck. I found a rebuild kit at a rental tool place of all places for around $50. Had two new pistons, rings and the cylinder liners in the kit. Been working every since but sure is loud. lol

Cowbay, my Gravely Pro zero has the FD590V water cooled Kaw. She went wide open about 3 weeks ago, governor grenaded. I'm putting it back together today. Are yours water cooled? I'm seeing water pump failure as being a killer of these since they leak into the crankcase. My oil when I drained it was like milk chocolate  and I had been losing a bit of coolant, not being able to determine where it was going. I think I now know. Just a warning in case you aren't familiar with this.

My family has run Cub Cadets for 40+ years, I still have 2. Modern Cub Cadets as well as JD's just aren't the machines they were in before the 80's . When IHC sold the Cub Cadet that was the end of them being real Cub Cadets.

Clint, cdeal28078, gets that Ford LGT going he'll have a REAL lawn tractor! I always thought it would be cool to have a nice blue Ford garden tractor in my stable.
