I get asked if I'll sell my truck every now and again. I live way out in the middle of nowhere and my driveway is 3/4 of a mile long back in the brush, so no one comes to the house to ask or anything. I get asked when I am out and about.
I am normally just friendly about it, tell them a short story of how my Dad bought it brand new and that it's pretty much the only thing I have that is NOT for sale. They seem to respect that and just keep moving.
A couple years back, a ran into a real jerk that was just not accepting the "it's not for sale" story. Like if he whips out 3,500 bucks I'm just going to pee my pants and hand it over (with my dog inside because he so generous). With the "everything is for sale" attitude, I could tell I was going to have to run him off. I said "you're right, it is for sale, you come up with 100 grand cash in the next 30 minutes and you will drive it home." Then I had to get a lecture from him about how it wasn't really worth very much. I then made him a really good offer..."If you stop talking right now and walk away, I won't bash the pi$$ out of you in front of your girlfriend, that's the deal of a lifetime buddy, I would take it". He accepted the terms.

Re: i get tired of some things
Little tubby neighbor kid comes knocking on my door, "Hey, my dad says to tell you he will give you 4 bills right now for your truck, that's $400 cause he likes it." I said let me see your hand, now take that hand home and smack your dad in the head with it! So he comes back a few days later and says "My dad will give you top dollar for your truck when you get it running good"...I say...let me see your other hand, cause obviously you didn't get him good enough the last time you asked! It's not for sale, but if he wants to buy a truck the neighbor has a 84 F150 for $500...and i'll sell you the starter, alternator, fuel pump and other parts I took off of it so it will be up and running again in an hour! Stay off my property, if it's for sale it will be sitting in the front yard with a sign in the window...

that kid may not have known better. and his dad was just thinking out loud. so the kid wanted to be a tattle tale about what his dad said.

wild ain't the word for it - i really scared the livin poop outta the clown who owned the placefordman wrote:i would have went flunking wild. the stupid mother fer. it wasnt even his truck what does he think he was doing to a truck that wasnt even his.Whateverman wrote:Bump owners don't get no respect-
i went to the junkyard a few years back for some brackets and other assorted crap, came out of the office after paying for whatever it was and had some jerkwad under my hood ripping the distributor out and his buddy attempting to remove the rear bumper AND they'd already drained the gas and oil out of it (!) -apparently the owner of the place had sold somebody most of my truck and sent the yard monkeys out there to strip my truck down !!
the worst part was that i'd been driving the truck in there just about every weekend for years scavanging parts for it and had just rebuilt & installed my 351w and had de-rustified & repainted the truck
there was some sort of justice though : because of the total freakshow that i put on for them i had free reign to pillage anything i wanted out of the place for absolute zero $$ for well over a year because of it - which i took full advantage of - for example: chev 305 with 70 000 KM -not miles- kilometers ,which means about 35k miles ( including accessories),Dana 60 rearend for chev p/u , holley carb from the owners race car, complete 90 mustang front clip...on and on...it was pretty ridiculous and i almost felt guilty...almost...
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

fordman, the little kid thinks he is a wheeler dealer. always tryin to buy an sell stuff, bikes, mowers, cars...then has another neighbor guy fix it for him (for free) and sits it out for sale! really he's not little at all, pretty sure he'll be turning 16 soon...going on 10 tho it seems.
