Re: The 70 crew's progress-modifications and cummins swap
In hindsight I think you should just triangulate the outer edge of your inner plate to the pedal mount bracket out by the dash panel. Maybe tie the inner side to the firewall at the brake booster. Or maybe make a 3/16" plate that goes between the pedal mount and the firewall.
I did the vertical support and it still moved enough I felt I would have issues in a year or two with it. I had @ 3/8" movement before and about 1/8" with the stiffener but the firewall groaned when I hit the clutch pedal.

Re: The 70 crew's progress-modifications and cummins swap
Looking at it I think I'm gonna run a kicker from the outter two left bolts to the bolt closest to us in the pic under the dash, with an angle and a bend should clear the pedal and not be an eye sore. This is what your seeing also? I have about 3/16 of firewall movement and it's all starting on the drivers edge of the plate so this should calm it down. The 1/2 shouldered bolt fit nicely in the pushrod. Tomorrow is another day.

a larger flat plate will make a big difference too. covering more surface area on the firewall will significantly reduce stress and flexing.

Thought about this also, was going to just attempt it on the inside if an additional brace doesn't work. I have to be carefull how much I modify stuff cuz when I get too deep it ends up a complete rebuild and reinvent the wheel type of deal! Lol

Ps comes off the backside of the timing case on the driver side, it's gear driven. Not a belt squealer. Lol

Re: The 70 crew's progress-modifications and cummins swap
Threw a kicker in there, no more deflection!
Took care of clearance hole in the floorpan, wrapped the downpipe, cleaned up and painted the inner fenders and core support.
Finished clutch pedal with dimples and bolted back together with good relubed bushings.
Finishing brake lines up again starting with the wilwood adjustable proportioning valve.
Going back together one piece at a time.

Re: The 70 crew's progress-modifications and cummins swap
I've been day dreaming about Mine lately. I think it's time to pull the 460 and 4 speed out of the 70 and start the cummins swap! I'm going with the 12 valve but I think I'm going with a eaton fuller 9 or 10 speed. Drop the rear end to around 353, then cruise 70 mph about 1500 rpm give or take ! Awesome thread btw

Breather mounted and plumbed to tappet cover.
Pedals mounted and functional, ended up using the dodge pedal from the donor of the engine.
Shifter hole now has the 2 piece boot from a 99-04 superpoopie. Still need to stitch in a spare piece of carpet, chunk was for photo.
Shifter/ snap on pry bar is in, shifts like butter. Seat bolted back in.
Where the exhaust will exit till I run it to the rear.
Wire wheeled the old pro comps and cleared them. They are temp till I add the shock hoops and coilovers. Want to get it running down the road b4 this addition.
Worked on hood latch. Parts came off a 06 dodge ram.
Short clip of it working

Awesome job on the latch. That radiator support setup a big stumbling block on mine.
One question though, is it that tall or are you that short? Brother's gonna need a ladder to work on it

Thanks, I can't believe that latch turned out like I had in my head. Normally doesn't work that way. Lol
Yes I'm a little on the short side at a whopping 5'8". The truck has 4" skyjacker springs and sits on a set off 33's right now. Used to be on 35's but got a deal on these rims and tires when bfg discontinued the MUDs in a 16.5x35, the plan is for 37's in the end.
We overcome the engine bay obstacle with a pair of these.
Not too pricey but worth their weight in gold!

Re: The 70 crew's progress-modifications and cummins swap
Truck was up and running and a blast to drive especially when that turbo lights! Just not quite street legal with lights and signals. So still being at this point I decided to replace all the wiring in the truck headlights to tail lights with fresh from Centech. We had already redone almost all the wiring in the engine compartment so it just makes sense to update the 45yr old spaghetti. I'm going to loose the lower valance and extend the 3/16 plate on the top of my bumper to the sides and back of the area where the valance is now, shaping it around the intercooler. Then bolting my corner turn signal housings to that. It's pretty close to where they should be and look cleaner than a chopped up valance, then a few other mods to the bumper itself and I'll have it powder coated this time around.
How Hunka sits as of now.
Out with the old and in with the new.
Over 13lbs of wire, wish me luck. Lol
