Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
project up date? are you kidding? i didnt get anything done to it. except fix the spare tire and the two flats it ws having all the time. two of them were bead leaks. one was a bad valve core. i didnt have a valve core for it so i wasted my time. i did drop off the engine wiring harness the main part of the heater controls. i am still looking for the nuts and the knobs for the front of it. i did put the speedo cable on but it was way too long. i have to swap that out now. this is a joke working on a truck 45 miles from me.

Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
well i felt i done something today. more than i have gotten done in the past few weeks. the truck now has all the tires holding air again. i need to get the new valve core in the rear tire so i can put it back on. its a real good tire i dont want it going bad on me. i got the carb to pedal trapeze on and ready to go. all of the heater hoses are on. the wiper switch is finally in. i dont know how but it fell together. i also put the hazard switch and wiper switch knobs on after that. i thought about trying to put the door panels on but i said to heck with that. until i get the passenger door properly adjusted. i guess that isnt very much but i didnt have any problems doing any of it. i also made a hand written list of everything i forgot to take with me today. so that stuff can all be found and loaded up next weekend. thats it for now. i may do something on monday to it i dont know.

Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
ah well i got three things kind of done. they are done. but i should have gotten more done. i got the heater controls in. i also got the parking brake cable fished up through the cab mount and hooked up. i also got the brake pedal rod to the master cylinder on. but i had to remove the whole pedal. to try and fix the brake pedal switch. the little springy thing that holds the switch in broke. i tried putting it back in upside down but it just wouldnt work without several washers. so i took the pedal off to bring it home and try to fix it. the fix i thought of on the way home is to throw away the springy thing. and put the switch in where it need to be. and then put a hose clamp on the top part of the switch so the switch will stay into the hole.
if you notice the doors are different. one is from a 69 and the other a 71. the 71 has extra hoels in the inner door to mount
the fiberboard door panels with. the 69 doors dont have the holes. since i am putting fiberboard panels in this truck. i will have to drill the 69 door to accept the inner door panels. here are the pics i took this evening.

Use a couple of jam nuts on that switch.
Those clips always gave trouble.
A jam nut on each side of the bracket will allow you to adjust the switch properly, whereas a hose clamp will not provide that adjustment.
All of the brake light switches I've bought in recent years for older Ford trucks had the jam nuts included in the box.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
pretty much closed down for the winter. i now cut wood in the winter time instead of work on this thing. i did find a bracket switch bracket for the brake pedal. but it doesnt seem right. so i got a 79 brake swithc jamb nut. i am hoping to find another one soon. one for each side of the switch.

Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
wel i took a few parts with me on saturday and i got a few small things done to it. i got the brake pedal switch put in with two nuts on both sides of the bracket and it seems to work fine now. so that is done. i also put the inner fenders back onto the front clip sort of. . i forgot to bring soem other parts so i could finish putting the front clip back on. i had stole the inner fenders for my 4wd. and i used the ones i bought at the junkyard for this truck. i also put hte headlight bucket back in the grille. but i was missing one of the springs. so one of them isnt sitting in there completly yet. i should have fixed the flat tire but i have been working on trucks so much i took the rest of the day off. after i put the aftermarket mirror on the passenger side. this truck has a lot of rusty parts going back on it right now. and i was looking at it the other day and thinking i should just junk it. but i have to much invested to junk it. does anyone need parts from it? ebay isnt doing worth a penny fo rme right now. i have no job and i have got to get some money or else.

Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
just loads of greatness and fun. last week i decided to remove the mx transmission from the truck and scrap it. because of the way i would have to hook up the floor shifter and it leaked in a few places that i didn't want to mess with fixing. plus i had a bolt on the crankshaft that i thought was stripped. so the engine had to come back out anyway to deal with that bolt. so on monday of this week we pulled the engine and trans back out of the truck. i then took the old bolt out and tried to put in another bolt in the crankshaft. it was the wrong bolt it was for a manual trans. i had brought the wrong bolt with me. so today i brought the correct bolt with me and the old bolt i had cleaned the threads up on and tried to put it in the crank and torque all the flywheel bolts back down. well it turns out the crankshaft bolt hole is stripped and it wasn't a bad bolt so here i sit almost back to where i started last summer. how nice. anyway i have another engine with a good crank in it. that i can put in the truck. but now i need to get the engine down to the truck. or i need to find a good way to fix the bad bolt hole in the crankshaft.

i got the engine loaded up so i can get the work done to replace or fix the crankshaft. it is sitting in the back of my truck right now. i just have to make the decision on how to fix it or replace the crank.

Re: 1970 F100 Extra parts rebuild
well i have decided to put the 351 in it that i have sitting here since i cant sell it and the crank is messed up in the 360. so i am waiting around to get enough money together to find a transmission that will bolt up behind it. it needs the 385 series bell pattern. and i know where one is at. but i still dont have that kind of money. any way i did replace the bad tire on the passenger rear that got dry rotted sitting around. so now the truck sits level and doesnt look like it is in a hole or the suspension is bad. i have also got a different bumper fo rmy 4wd so i can put a chrome bumper on this truck now. instead of the rusty look chrome bumper it had on it. thats about it until i can buy a transmission. its either buy a transmission or buy a heli coil kit. it costs more to buy a different transmission . but i dont want to buy a helicoil kit i will only use once. and i have decided to change the bed and use the old bed as parts to repair the dented drivers side of the new bed. here is a partial picture of the truck that is donating its bed to this truck.
