Id just fix it if it were me. Or a EFI 302. Or just get a used econobox. Friend of mine has gotten three different full sized cars now each around $1500 and in decent condition.

What about using a Ford Crown Vic Police intercepter motor, maybe not the best milage but she will get up and go.
