Speeding is frowned upon because it's deadly. My cousin was a passenger in a car with 3 other people that ran into the back of a semi. It wasn't pretty. They used to use a picture of the wreck in driver's ed classes.
well- i'll start by saying that i'm sorry about your loss & that this is gonna cause hurt feelings but i don't really care because its the truth:
Speeding doesn't kill people - bad driving,or driving above one's ability ,especially in combination with impairment kills people.
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

Thanks for the condolences. I was pretty young when it happened so it hasn't affected my life accept for a missing branch in the family tree. My cousin was 16 when she died.
You are correct in what you said but you need to add "the unexpected" to your list. I don't have anything against driving as fast as possible but it should be in a controlled environment. Not on public highways. Especially not driving 135 mph in a 45 mph road. The pros take precautions to limit the risk. They use harnesses, roll bars etc. and well inspected driving areas.
Actually, speed has never killed anyone. It's always been the sudden stop.
100 on bad bushings and manual drums is bout the best i got. gonna swap so guess thats the only story ill have to tell. that was fun enough. steering wheel shaking tire outta balance and fun to stop when id had enough!! still like my ol rustbucket though. til couple months ago id forgotten how fun it was to drive my wore out hunk of metal!

Any road without a posted speed limit is 45 around here. This was far from a busy road. I broke down on this road once and it was an hour or better before I saw the first car. I also have a roll bar and 5 points if that makes you feel any better.

Ill let it rip if im somewhere i dont have others to worry about. wont get with it in busy areas though. my experience was open 2 lane no traffic in low populated area. that way odds are ill only hurt me if i screw up.

Yeah...I did. I actually had some second thoughts about doing while constructing the helmet. A guy has a lot of time to reflect on the value of life while eating that many Hershey's kisses.

I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm actually guilty myself. I was a teenager when I got my first car, a '65 Chevy Impala Super Sport with a 327 and "4 on the floor". A previous owner had made modifications to the engine for racing. There was no posted speed limit in Montana at the time. The law said "reasonable and prudent". I was on a straight section of highway where I could see for miles and there was no other traffic but there's no way what I did could be considered "reasonable and prudent".
