I had the bumper, grille, headlight bezels blasted and coated in the silver, headlight buckets, core support brackets done in gloss black and all the headlight bucket hardware replaced for $300.00

Re: Hackster's 1968 f100 CV Swap
I hear ya on just running more boost, ! And I loved running meth on my car. I ran 100% meth for more octane and a little charge cooling....and because it was easier than mixing with no chance of variance;) I still only ran it up to 27psi on pump gas because I didn't want to push it too hard, but that's a lot more psi with a lot more timing than I would have felt safe at with pump gas only.
What's the turbo size? S366? A/R?

Holy poop that's big! And 18 psi is going to be a whole bunch from that turbo on a stock comp motor! I can't wait!

Re: Hackster's 1968 f100 CV Swap
Couple of guys I know are putting between 750 and 800 to the rear tires with this setup. Somewhere around 900 at the crank. I hoping that with a cam, valvesprings, gaskets and studs I should be right in that ballpark as well.guhfluh wrote:Holy poop that's big! Truck should be pretty quick with this setup.
As far as pricing on the bumper, grille and bezels, I would put it closer to $250.00. They were a lot of work for my shop to do, coated front and back and are two coats of powder, the dull chrome goes on first, gets baked, then a second coat of clear goes on then gets baked again.

Re: Hackster's 1968 f100 CV Swap
That's what I was going to say the powder coat looked like; chrome with clear. Unfortunately if you want it to look chrome, powder coat doesn't stay looking good unless you clear it, then it becomes dull, but I actually think it's a great look for your grille and bumper(s).
I'd like to follow some of the info on those other builds if you have a link; I don't want to derail your thread. I don't doubt the power that can be made with a stock LS with good tuning. What cam are you planning? Stock grinds normally work really well for turbo apps, and I've seen some writeups on stock LS(9?) cam swaps making a good bump with their wide LSA, but good lift and duration.

Re: Hackster's 1968 f100 CV Swap
As one who originally planned on using all kinds of things on my truck I am ok with your build. I have never had good results with GM products but if it works for you great. Love the turbo! I decided to do a dash swap in my truck. Went shopping for a dash I liked and as luck would have it what I chose was from a '57 Fairlane. My truck is all Ford only by luck not by design. The steering wheel will be custom built but designed after a '66 Toronado. I would have never put a GM power plant in it because of my experience with GM not due to Ford all ford, GM all GM mentality. I put a Plymouth 318 with a Ford 9" in a '37 Chevrolet truck.

Lol I'm not the one putting an lS1 in a ford. It like putting a 351 in a Chevy or a dodge. Its like You're dissing the brand. It's just not right. My I guess. Either way I'm jealous of your welds, nice work.hackster wrote:Craigerf100 wrote:Oh no an ls1 Booo! hissss!

Its funny how people have different perspectives on this issue. I have no brand loyalty, I see it as a great body and frame to work with, not overly done in the hot rodding world with a great front suspension and rearend. To find something in the ford world that would be large displacement, have this kind of power and a reliable transmission that can consistently hold up to 1,000 horsepower would be 3x the money.
Thanks for the compliments on the welding
I am going to build an old flathead in the next couple of years with an all metal ford body if that makes you feel better =)

Re: Hackster's 1968 f100 CV Swap
Well, I managed to get over to the other side of town and pick up another $300.00 in stainless tubing and fittings for the fuel system.
Got the oil pan all cleaned up and installed along with a fresh new filter. Installed my new fitting in the pan as well.
Got the power steering lines finally made up with the Swagelok fitting and pressed on the power steering pump pulley, installed the water pump gaskets and final bolted on the water pump and the new billet straight water pump outlet.
I am actually ready to bolt on some stuff for good onto the motor so I threw on my new ceramic coated manifolds and crossover. Pretty happy with how this stuff looks Finish Line did a great job and got it turned around in just about a week.
Picked up some 3" aluminum to modify my intercooler...might get a little more progress on that tomorrow.

Re: Hackster's 1968 f100 CV Swap
Very nice work! I'm doing a twin turbo 347 stroker motor in my 68. Can't wait to play with it.
68 Ford F-100, two wheel drive short bed. 46k original miles, was a 240 six cylinder 3 on the tree. Changed to a 347 stroker with a C6, 03 Crown Vic front end, lunar green. Torn completely apart for a frame off fun daily driver project.
