Yeah Bobby... yer a little late on that one...

We determined that earlier... it is a '67-'69 tailgate..
It's most like pic #30 posted above, but with the center piece.
I didn't notice the serif style letters until after I posted the pic of the later style (my bad).

God, I think I am gonna love you guys! You all were so encouraging....thank you. And, thanks for the comic relief Bobby for jumping in late...I needed that! LOL

Anyway, good news.........I FOUND MY KEYS! One of these done it!

Image

I absolutely went on a mad hunt, fine tooth combing this place. As I got through my bedroom (the last room) I came upon this pile of stash (puppy kibbles, a couple of puppy toys and a missing ring of mine) and lo and behold, there was my keys....stuck between the nightstand and the wall. Of course, when interrogating both of them, neither would fess up...so, it will remain a mystery. Little Poopheads they are!

So, now I can get my tools out and start in, now that I can get into the truck. Cleaning off the motor will be my first priority. Then, I'm just gonna dig in and start doing the tune-up work on it. One thing at a time, eh? Then, work on getting the back of the bed back in it's proper position and get the tailgate situation taken care of. Then, I thought until it gets a bit warmer I am going to just focus on detailing the inside of the cab. At least I will have a good running truck and the inside will be nice to be in.

Howz that for starters?

i vote for the one on the left. it looks more playful. you should get a second key though. you never know if your goingt o lock the keys inside by accident some time. i have done it myself before.

I don't ever even think about the chat room... don't know why... :dk:

Fordman... yer truck locks on it's own???
Mine don't... I have to lock mine with the key...
I like that... then I don't ever lock my keys in the truck...
I can't tell you how many times I've locked my keys in the Caravan...
3 times with it runnin'...
One time was down in Oregon... cost $60 to have a tow truck come and unlock the door with a slim jim.
Later that day, I bought a slim jim for $.99 ...

Sheez! I saw you guys saying out your doors lock and all and I couldn't remember so I went outside to check.....and the damn locks don't lock at all. How freaking stupid, I could have gotten inside of it all day long the past two days. Heck, it's not like I got gold bars or a high end stereo in there, but it needs to be able to be locked...first time I have paid attention to that.

I get the pen and to do list out and write........"GRRRRRRRRRR"

RC

PS. I think it was Vida (one on the left), she's my ornery one.

Just have fun with it! Even if you don't totally restore it, half the fun of these old trucks is just playin with them and bringing back some of there former glory.

BTW, in case you hadn't figured it out yet, BUMP refers to the bump that runs down the side of the body from front to back at the "beltline" as it's referred to. All 67-72 Fords have it. Occaisionally someone will mention a "dent", because 73-79 Fords have an indentation there instead. Also you may hear "slick", which refers to 1960-66 (or 61, I can't remember) because the fenders are kind of swoopy and slick.

Hey KC...

Did ya try locking it with the key???
They won't lock any other way... except from the inside...
Theoretically you could lock yerself in, by pushing down the locks when yer inside...
But technically, you wouldn't actually be locked in 'cause you can unlock it yerself.
However if yer hands were tied in a straight jacket, you could possibly lock yerself in...
Theoretically speaking of course... :D
I saw these tail gate straps on ebay

I would have to say it was the one right the one on the left looks to be the trouble maker but you got to watch out for the laid back quiet ones. I don't know how i would know that but any way welcome to Fordificaton :wel:

Fomocoguy,

You're right....so, I am just gonna have fun with my truck. Actually, without the having to be exactly correct with it, it's becoming a much funner project to me. And, thank you very much for clearing up the terms bump, dent and slick....was beginning to wonder from the lack of someone telling me what bump is, if it was some sort of secret code that only of the manly man club was allowed to know.

Kaptnkaos,

Uh huh.....I read all what you guys were talking about, about locking these trucks and I tied everything but neither doors locked. And, what's the bullcrap of you thinking of me in a straight jacket. Don't be going anywhere nears thinking that again or you will find yourself in one. I think you've been working under the hood again and it fell and bumped your head. I got straps, but thank you for the lead. You wanna see em? I know how to use em! :D

Chris,

I am a woman, I get hormonal and I am a member of the NRA. So, if you are giving me some type of warning about you being a trouble maker, know this, so am I. I can hold my own quite well! Thanks for the welcome....I have felt very welcomed here!
