If I remember correctly...I think the original protoype to that truck was kinda cool. Then...they had a team look it over and decide that it was not nearly gross enough, so they fixed it.DuckRyder wrote:I don't think that "retro" trucks have done well (SSR?) it could be cool if they did it correctly.

Owning my 1972 F250 since 1986, there's not much I can neither repair, nor afford to repair. It is also good to be able to change, upgrade and modify as I see fit, not quite so allowable on a new vehicle. I must admit, I really enjoy all the trips to the local pick and pulls. A treasure hunt!
New(er) vehicles certainly have performance, reliability, and comfort. That part is nice.
For the long-haul mileage eater, I sure like my 2005 Focus wagon 5 speed...30 something in town, 42 hwy, drives like a sports car. I almost consider it disposable, will replace after I hope 200,000+ miles with another similar.
A new truck? No way would I trade even though it's still apart and spread out all over the house and yard.
Besides, what would my neighbors think if I actually cleaned up my yard, had a shiny new truck in place of all the debris of the old one? It just woudln't be right...

If this guy is will to trade his brand new pickup for my crapbox of a truck, couldn't I just dupe him into to trading me his truck for a used TV and a fresh box of cereal and keep mine.

Re: sir, id like to offer you a 2012 for that old truck u got,
When I got home the other day after having posted that I would sell my dog for two million bucks it ate at me. Funny how some unrealistic thought can get you thinking. I felt crappy and on my ride home thought of about a million reasons (two million to be exact) to justify a trade like that and it still didn't set right with me. Then when I got home and he greeted me it made me feel worse about considering such a notion. Then the real icing on the cake was after he'd done his business and we came back in the house and we parked on the couch he did one of those deals where he sits next to me and leaned on me and looked up. I told him... "No I wouldn't sell my Bubba-boy for all the money in the world...!!"
I figure we're doing O.K. as it is and I like my job well enough so we'll leave well enough alone. Besides that the last hunting trip I was gone for three weeks. My mum came over to stay with the dog and she said after a day or two he just laid around moping and every time she let him out he'd run down to my truck to see if I was there. I don't know that he'd adjust to another owner very well. His breed in general tends to be slow to trust folks.
I am glad that there's no chance of an offer like that becoming a reality. It would certainly be tempting and hard to pass on. One other positive note I had for a selling my dog was that I wouldn't have to be there when he died. No matter how old you get that's still a really tough time.
To "toFowle" regarding the old homestead. Didn't mean that as any sort of dig and yes I know what that's all about. I bought the house my mum and dad built with their own two (four I guess) hands. To do so I had to sell the house my dad grew up in that I had bought after my grandmother died. The idea that there would be "stranger" living there wasn't pleasant. But more so the idea of "strangers" living in the house my dad built bugged me even more. I'd have a hard time selling the place if for some reason that became a consideration or requirement. I had to laugh when you mentioned the worn spot on the porch. I have a beam in the house that has a chunk chewed out of it from when I was teething. Somewhere there's an old Dr. Seuss book with a big half moon chewed out of it as well. Hmmm... lead based paint... That explains a lot...!!
Now the trucks... still firm on that. I love the body style of the older trucks and cars for that matter, but I'm not so attached to any of my trucks that I couldn't be happy in a different one. My 72's getting some cancer and the engine is getting a little tired... I'd be glad to swap it out...!!

Re: sir, id like to offer you a 2012 for that old truck u got,
Right, my truck (regardless of body style or age) is to me what your dog is to you. The old "everything is for sale" deal, really does not apply to me on just a few things. You could probably talk me into cutting off my leg for a couple grand, but dog/truck, they really are not for sale.
Thing is though, I don't really have big dreams of what I would do with a boat load of money. I have a decent little house, on a small chunk of land, I can fish from a chair in my yard. I have a good gal, a good dog and a bunch of hotrods and man toys. To top it off, I actually enjoy my work. I would still work if I was a billionaire and I would still be digging through a junk-yard for cool stuff. I know that it's not really the American way to be satisfied with what you have and not always want more, but, it's really kinda where I'm at.
If we took the 2012 pickup out of the equation for me and lets just pretend that some guy had recently taken a sharp blow to the head and offered me 50k for my old truck. By a finical standpoint, I would have to be a huge fool not to take it. Well, I am that fool and I would not take it. If I did...okay, so now I have 50k. What to do with 50k? Well, I could sit and stare at a pile of green paper, that's fun. I could buy some more toys, but I have a shop full of that stuff already and I really prefer to build my own stuff. I find that just as fun as owning them. But, wow, I really miss my old 71. I know, I will go out, get a 71 F250 and make it just like the one I sold. But wait, how am I going to buy the hundreds of hours I spend as a boy sitting over in the passenger seat, all the time I sat in the driver's seat pretending I was driving it. Taking my drivers test in it, driving around with my first girlfriend in it (and other things). The day I got back from the gulf war and it was brought to me to drive back, how the particular smell in the cab and the way it felt made me know I was back home again. When my Mother passed away and her specific instruction were to drive here ashes out to the beach, in that truck and ONLY that truck and to let her go into the wind. Would 50k replace any of that? Not to me it won't, nothing will.
Now, just an old bump pickup that I bought from someone and had some time into making it like I want. Yeah, that would be up for grabs in a heartbeat, but not this one. Money is not worth life to me and many important pieces of my life are in the truck.
I realize that my particular situation is pretty unique in this case. However, I have a pretty strong feeling that most of you, giving the same circumstances, would not sell the truck.

Re: sir, id like to offer you a 2012 for that old truck u got,
Im in the situation that if I wanted a new 2012 truck, I could just go out and buy it (well, finance it anyway...). The fact is that when I was looking for a "new" truck, I was looking for an old Ford and ended up with my 72 F250 because I could not find a Crew Cab at the time. Now that I finally found a Crew, I would not trade it for a new truck. Yeah, like everyone else has said, you could sell it and then buy another crew with plenty of money left over. But I have done enough on this truck so far that I pretty much know every inch of it and it is in the process of going back together soon to be my daily driver. At this stage, I am not parting with it.
A 2012 truck can be bought anytime, anywhere. A 1969 Crew took a long time to find, and then get to the point where it is everything I want (almost there). Would I trade it for a new truck? Nope... Call me crazy, but I would rather have what I want then settle for something else (even if it is worth more).

Re: sir, id like to offer you a 2012 for that old truck u got,
In second...
I'd then have a brand new truck, and I can always go out and buy another bump
if I felt so compelled. But.. there is nothing really special about my truck..
It's just a work truck.. Runs good, but needs paint, has some body rust creeping in, etc..
I might feel different if it were totally restored, and looking like new. Or OEM that
looks like new.. Those are the best. If you can find one.. :/

Re: sir, id like to offer you a 2012 for that old truck u got,
People have offered to buy my truck a couple times but never say trade for brand new.
I would have to decline an offer like that. My 70' was the first thing that was ever mine and every time I climb behind the wheel it still makes me feel like I am driving it for the first time. Its part of my personality anyway. And considering that I can fix my truck with basic handtools on the side of the road at 4 in the morning in the rain I would take that over the brand new car that when something eventually goes wrong you are calling a tow truck.
And trucks are like dogs once you name them its almost impossible to let them go.

In a heartbeat. I could buy another rusty old Ford like mine for less than $1000, have a barn full of parts for it and a nice new truck to drive.
