spot weld cutters

Post by fordman »

i got a matco tool catalog from the matco truck that goes through town today. it has all kinds of spot weld cutters in it. they have set of soild type of cutters or ones that fit on a mandrel and even double sided ones man they have a buch of different stuff to cut spotwelds with. even including drill bits. but the cutters are suppose to last long enough to cut 3000 spot welds.

Yea right, if you are really careful they might last. They are a wonderful tool though 8)

Granted, the one I picked up at the local parts store was inexpensive ($20-ish), but it wore out before even drilling out a single spotweld. I was not happy.

That "can be bought at MSC for a lot less" is true of countless items. MSC is a really good resource for low price quality tools, although a lot of their stuff is imported so if you like to buy American (and who doesn't  ) they're not always the way to go.

Well if you get a cutter just make sure the metallurgy is up to snuff.(or quality) it doesn't mater cost or brand, or where the thing was made. if its junk its junk.

Yeah that's the MSC I was talking about, I found out about them while doing machine work. That comment about using the catalog as a jackstand was a dead giveaway too they are HUGE catalogs.

I guess what I'm saying is, you don't have to buy imported from them and when you do it's your choice. Not like these tool tents on side of the road or places like HF. I stopped at one of those places and looked at the tools alot of them were "American Tool Co." made in China.
