Parts cleaning?

Post by Fake Name »

Back in the Old Days, and I worked in a shop, we'd have a solvent tank with a recirculating pump and a stiff brush in the corner of the shop for cleaning parts. We'd brush them down or let them soak in solvent for a while, then blow them off with air. Worked great, but I'm certain was responsible for the death of many of some Higher Power's greatest small creatures- an environmental catastrophe.

So- what do you clean your parts with? Suppose you had a grungy AC compressor mount, or valve covers- what would you use?

I'd drop them in my solvent tank filled with mineral spirits with the recirculating pump and check back in on 'em in a bit.

I've got a parts washer with recirculating pump and it works pretty well. Not the old school type, just a small one that runs water/degreaser mix. It has a safety link so in the possible event of fire from within, it will automatically shut the lid and turn off the pump so as to try to keep the fire contained.
