First time poster….. questions about barn find.
Hello to all!
My son in law told me about this truck about six months ago and I have been hounding him to send me some pictures. He finally sent them today and I think I will have to buy this truck.
I have been into old cars for a lot of years but if I buy this it would be my first Ford truck. He said it needs a valve job and the owner has the valve covers off and the passenger side rockers loose by the looks of the pictures. At this time I don’t know any particulars about the truck but it is only 120 miles from me. I can see in the pictures that it says Custom Cab just behind the door and Ford 250 on the front fender.
My questions are:
1. I don't know what engine it has in it. Can you tell by the picture?
2. I don't know for sure what year it is, but I think '67?
3. I would presume that a 250 is a 3/4 ton?
4. Does the interior look original?
5. If he asks me to make him an offer what should I say?
You can probably tell I don't know much about the Fords, and my son in law isn't much of a car person at all so he doesn't know what to look for or what questions to ask. I have to go out of state for a few days and I probably won't be able to go look at it before we go.

It is NOT a 67.. it is a 68 or 69.
The engine is in the FE family... 352, 360, or 390. I'm not that much of an expert but it is definitely a big block fe.
As for price, does it run, does it have a clear title? how much work will it take to get it to run?

Oh yeah... Welcome!!!
I wouldn't pay more than 500.00 for it, being that it is a non-running truck that needs at least a valve job... probably a tune up... who knows what else.

well I dont think its a 67. The grille looks to be a 67 but by the interior in it looks like a 68 or 69. The 67s didnt have the slider heater controls they hand the pull knobs. Also the reflectors on back make me think its a 69. I am not sure but pretty sure its not a 67. I would pic it up if I was you the body looks to be in good shape. Check it out real close underneath. Especially the cab supports. Fenders are not to hard to find if they are rusted out.

That's not a '67 grille, it's a '69 grille. The '67 grilles had similar-sized crossbars, whereas the '68s and '69s had a fat center bar. The '68 center bar was smooth, the '69 center bar had a groove in it, which would be painted red for the Rangers. This grille has the groove, so it's a '69 grille. Also, as mljjones67 stated, those rear bedside reflectors are a '69-only thing.
It's definitely an FE, and judging the lack of 390 emblems on the fenders which (only) the '68-'69 trucks had, I'd bet on it being a 360. (The 352 was last used in '67.) The only way to determine for sure is to pop a spark plug out and use a wooden dowel or heavy wire to check the stroke.
I'd venture you could probably pick that up for less than $500. Offer 3 bills and see what they say.

Thats definitely a 69 grill. Also it has the 68 and up inside door handles, so its not a 67. To answer your third question, a 250 is a 3/4 ton truck.

Hood latch and rear view mirror says it's a '69 along with the grille and rear reflectors as mentioned.

I think the rear bumper is a mount for some kind of lift.
I'm problably nuts but if I were in the market for a truck I'd probably go 800-1000 on this one if he is the original owner.
It looks to me like it is for the most part "honest" as in not monkyed with and possibly original paint...paint can hide alot.
If you just want a driver you can probably do better, but for a restoration it looks like an excellent starting point.

The rear bumper was described, to me once, as an after market unit that allows towing while allowing you to put the tail gate down all the way. Kind of a neat item. Check to see if it has the original bumper brackets. I agree that it looks very much like a '69. It's not the low end (has a custom cab), but pretty near - no p/s, p/b, or a/c. Likely a 360 with NP435. Looks like all the original linkages and wiring are in place. The body is not all beat up, except for the fenders, and as mentioned the front fenders are easy to find. Should be an easy restoration or a good daily driver if the frame is solid. The paint should shine with a good wash and buffing. Overall, I think the truck would be worth $500. Will probably need rebuild engine as they didn't take valve covers off for fun. Something has happened.

Thanks flyboy2610. I will have to see if I get the truck first. I called and talked to the guy tonight. He said his dad bought it new. He has all of the information on the truck written down but he couldn't lay his hands on the paper right then. He said the odometer shows 47,000 miles on it. They stopped driving it because it started missing. His dad had some half a** mechanic come over to give them an estimate on fixing it and he is the one that took the valve covers off and loosened the rocker bolts up. The guy is supposed to call me back when he finds the paper with the info on it. I forgot to ask him if he had the tailgate.
