Finally making more progress!!!!!

Post by lrjetmech »

Ok, been putting it off long enough, I have dove straight forward off into the abyss!!!!!!!! Everything has gone pretty well so far, only one exhaust manifold bolt to drill out. Was suprised at how easily the heads came off and out with the exhaust manifolds still attached. Everything else came right off with no problems. Got the top and front sides of the engine cleaned up already-still wanna do some detailing and get her really cleaned up nice. New cam and lifters ready to go in, maybe next weekend. I am pleasantly suprised at how good everything looks so far-hoping new gaskets will take care of the existing leaks and keep her looking good for a while. Look in my gallery for pics!

Sounds good. Glad to see everyone getting the "spring fever". By the time I get to do any of this, there will be plenty of examples and methods to follow and avoid some of the learning curve.

Update time! Got the heads redone and got them back. Got the oil pan off and bead blasted, along with the valve covers. They're now ready for primer and some paint. Got the cam and timing set installed. Working a ton of overtime since last month, so progress is slow, but it's getting there.
Gonna pick up a new oil pump and hopefully get the front cover and oil pan back on this week. Then the heads should be next, etc. Was hoping to be further by now, but the 7 10-hour days a week is not leaving much time for much else but sleep!!!!!!!! :x Here's some pics:

i want to say those belong UNDER the hood, not on top of it. I may be wrong lol Hopefully it won't take you as long as it has me, to get the motor in your truck.

Looking good. Yeah don't know how well those will work on top, but looks like some great progress. Man those FE heads look funny compared to other heads.

Good progress. Those covers and pan will look great with new paint on them.

Those covers look really nice... maybe you should get them blue anodized! That would be a first... (at least, the first I've seen).

Ok, here are some of the latest pics. Trying to get this thing back together before I have to start moving into the new house in two weeks, have until July 1st to be out completely. The valve covers are just setting on there for looks, cleaning my rocker shafts and rockers, hope to get them back on Tues. night after I get off work @ 12 a.m.! Like the old saying goes, "All I've got left is finishing up!"

I'm stuck in a hole. (It's all about me.) The body shop is so busy with insurance business that my truck is taking second place. I'm envious that your project is moving ahead. Looks great. The pictures are nice. Don't mind me. I will get over it. :(
