sharing the joy - 352 is in and running

Post by Whoaaanelly »

Don't know how many will remember the story, but the long and short of it is I bought a truck - $500 - and half-way home it starts a knockin' (why it didn't the few miles I test drove it???) Anyway, I pull the pan and find nylon cam gear fragments, dented pan, worn pump. New timing set/pump/pan straightened/rod bearings it runs, less knock, no oil pressure. So, I hunt daily on Craigslist for a new block (no space to tear the thing apart and leave it that way for months). $100 later I'm on my way to the machine shop with a new "core" and getting her cleaned and ready to rebuild. Fast forward 6 months and I finally get my vacation and tear into her. 3 days left (of the vacations and here's where I'm at. She's a purring. Next will be my 2 pristene $25 a piece Pull-a-part fenders and I'll be spraying her down with Rustoleum Satin Black (poor-mans paint job) and ready to go to the dump! Enjoy the pics.

That is a sharp looking engine you got there.

I love the original tags etc on the cleaner.

Is that the original color they were when new? The gold color.

Spartman-

The black/gold is a Ford color scheme, but was typically used in the Mustang "K" code engines in like 65/66/67... and maybe a few others. I'm not 100% sure all the engines Ford did in the black/gold. I've never seen an FE painted like this, but I'd always wanted to do an engine this way, so I did. Black won't show the grime quite so easily and gold just looks... well "rich" and "Hi Performance". A man can dream, can't he? 8) Oh, and the air cleaner I think is for a 65 mustang, which I liked the "roundness of it better than the flatter/squarer 67 air cleaner (which I didn't have anyway). I had to make a custom spacer/riser to make it clear the carb, but you can't really see that.

Once I scuff out the body and paint it satin black I'll be quite happy with this truck until I build up my finances further to do more.
