Darth Ranger
OK, I changed the name to Darth Ranger from Darth Forder. It's not officially a Ranger, but it has a Ranger grille, so it is now. It's the mask of Darth Ranger. OK, so here's a few pictures of it as of today. I'll be posting kind of in reverse here. From what it is to what it began as when I got it. So, enjoy! If you are unfamiliar with the truck, there's another thread here:

This is the restored Ranger emblem I did.
Here's the grille, which I think is from a '68 Ranger, because I don't think they made '67 Ranger's did they?
It's a Custom Cab

More pics:
All freshly blackened
The neighbor walked down the street and stopped and stared and said "That's not the same truck, is it?"
I've got the stock shift knob I think I'm going to use. Otherwise, the interior just needs TUNES! Real soon now.
More added tomorrow.

that grill is a 69 grill. it has the bump in the center more out than the 68 grill. the 69 grill also had the red stripe across the center. where as the 68 ranger grill didnt it had a smaller bump across the center nad it was more rounded. no flat place for paint.
how did you restore that center emblem. please please please tell us or atleast tell me. how did you keep from getting red paint into the silver letters?

I'd say while we're still a free country (or showing some semblance of it), you can do whatever you'd like. I won't mind. I will say it looks a whole lot better than it did... I was almost embarrassed to drive it before. Not now.dolinick wrote:I like it a lot!

re: Darth Ranger
Fordman... thanks for the heads-up. I wasn't sure if it was a 68 or 69. I knew it wasn't a 67. It was clear it had been swapped when I bought the truck though I was a really green bump-man at the time. Except for the hood I've replaced all the sheetmetal, but there was a red upper valance and no lower valance when I got it (the truck was blue turquoise like the interior is) and the bumper was bent. So figured it was a 68 or 69, but I've not done the research to find out which. Now I don't have to !!

Re: re: Darth Ranger
Well... I'll have to do some measuring to find out exactly. It has 15" 50's on the rear when I got it (one was burned bald) and I couldn't find a match for the other, which was brand new (and still have). Nobody seemed to know where to find a match for it. So, I took the two front tires and mounted those on the rear and bought two new tires for the front. I'm not 100% sure how to measure rims (not my expertise), so if you know from where to what to measure, I'll do it. And then I'll know too.ezernut9mm wrote:what size rims are those? width and offset?

Steve, I really only straightened a couple of bent bars and then painted the stripes again. I cleaned it real well with Oil-Eater to get all the oil and stuff off of it and used 4-ought steel wool on it (the old paint kind of came off when I did that). I then just masked off for the red and painted it first and then when that was dry I masked off everything and painted the black bars with satin black. I wish I had the money I spent to redo my Falcon grille, but this is not the show vehicle, so I just cleaned it up. Let me know if I can help with anything that's not clear.69F110 wrote:Whoaaanelly,
That is looking good. How did you fix up that grill? I am fixing to do the same on mine (same grill you have there).
Thanks!
