My first restore project.

Post by Darrman »

I have finally gotten enough work done to show a little progress on my '69. I guess first I should say that its a 1969 F100 Custom Cab, LWB 2wd, 390/c6. I bought it back in Febuary for $500, it has some rust in the cab and bed floors, but thats it. Has a nice straight body, no real dents.
I am getting the 390 rebuilt this next tax season, so I have till then to get the thing driveable.
The interior colors are going to be black and Medium gray metallic, I have finished the steering column and the gauge cluster with this two tone, and plan to do the rest this way.
The outside will be Medium Charcoal gray metallic with some of the stainless trim.
I will update from time to time, worktime is scarce and so is funding, lol.
I am open to suggestions, this is my first complete resto, so I am a newbie.

Thanks, I have done quite a bit more, like strip and repaint the inner fenders, core support, and other peices. I gotta get that firewall done so I can start putting things back together. This means I gotta get the sandblaster out again.

Wow, that looks eerily similar to what I just got and did. $500 truck even. I think I even had the same steering wheel too! I've done many restoration projects, so from what I can see you're going good at it so far. The only thing I'd suggest is to paint the backing plates to go with all those new parts. Rust seems to like to creep and painting stuff will hold that back. I've got a small fortune invested in Rustoleum Satin Black, but it is some of the toughest paint I've found in a rattle can. The hammered stuff is pretty tough too and dries really fast and covers blemishes as well. If you got it apart... paint it with some good paint! You'll thank yourself in the long run.

Man its been a hot weekend here, but I got quite a bit done. The frame is fully painted now, just need one more coat. I also got the firewall primered, just need to finish the lower areas behind the cab mounts, then I can color paint it. I am painting it the same as the inner fender brackets that I bolted back up today, in the picture.
I am also working on the interior still, I have already done most of the peices like the cluster and the brake pedal and bracket. But the most challenging thing is this floor, its ate up pretty good. I have new floor pans, but these kick panels are toast to about halfway up. I am going to have to learn to fab my own parts I guess. I just bought a wire welder and cut off tool, so I will get started pretty soon.
