Ranger Overdrive Unit

Post by dbarker »

Ive been lurking around, trying to find a suitable overdrive setup. Im not up for doing a tranny swap, Im quite pleased with my 70,000 mile T18.

However, I would like to get just a touch better on the old mpg out of this 360. I've looked into gearvendors... to expensive. Ive looked at the tranny swaps, if it comes down to it id rather not have overdrive and just keep the old T18.

Then i remembered the tech article on the Ranger overdrive. Dug around found it, found the orginal threads for it, im hooked. The problem, the write up was for the NP435.

According to the website, The ranger is for 4speed Fords. Will this bolt up to a T18 and if so has anyone done it?

Also, for those who have installed the Ranger on any trans... how it holding up?

Thanks everyone,
~D

If it'll work on a 435 it'll work on a T-18. All Ford truck 4 speeds have the same bearing retainer diameter and bolt patterns. You just have to remove the bearing retainer and cut it down for the ranger to fit.
