Clutch Linkage?

Post by dolinick »

My clutch pedal only travels a short distance before
hitting the floor and the clutch doesn't disengage
completely. Can anyone explain if/how the linkage
can be adjusted? When I was installing the clutch
spring there was a small pin that liked to fall out.
Is this the thing that is too short or maybe can be
adjusted.

The truck is a '71 f100 with 360 v8 and 3 speed
transmission.

Thanks,

There is a Clutch push rod in the driver's side of the transmission. I runs between the "Z" bar and clutch fork. The push rod should have an eye hole and pin connection on the Z bar side, and a pointer on the fork side. The push rod is threaded with two jamb nuts. Two half inch wreches should loosen the jamb nuts and the pionted end should turn by hand. Just turn it a couple times, then see how the clutch feels. Dont forget to retighten the jamb nuts.

Well, I looked at the z-bar, push rod and the fork.
Everything seems to be well worn. the hole in the end
of the threaded part of the pushrod isn't round it is
kind of elongated. the pin that goes thru the hole
is also worn down a bit. I unscrewed the jamb nuts
somewhat and the end of the pushrod isn't threaded
at all and will just fall off if you let it. It's extended
out probably as far as it will go now. I drove it and
the clutch seems to be working fine now but I will
have to replace those parts I suppose.
