dream shop tools...
So heres a fun little thread for us.... Given you have extra money, let's not go over board here....so your limited to say...600 a month. Over a year, 12 months, what would you want to buy?? Thats 7200 a year. Good chunk of change, but remember its over a full year.
In what order would you buy things? No limits on the tool you want, just post em up!
I figure I would want a chop saw (200), 220/175 welder (650), jd2 or pro tools tubing bender (300+250 for die), and a pro tools tubing notcher (200).
I would buy the welder first, chop saw second, bender third, and notcher 4th. That would take 3 months total ( a bit unrealistic probably I know ). If I could ever make up my mind on which, i'd buy a tig machine and plasma cutter, and band saw as well.
What all would you guys buy?

Hey '71Ford
That's good... I'm workin' on yer #3 now
If had that kind o'money to spend, the first thing I would do is build a shop to put my tools in.... one big enough to pull my truck into...
It would be really nice if my bus Olde Skool could fit in there too... not necessarily at the same time though.
The rest would go for taxes...

With that kind of budget..... BIG pressbrake (16' most likely), Bigger lathe, bigger mill, maybe an overhead crane..... oh the possibilities....

Wish list....
A good forklift, an ironworker, a Cincinnati or Van norman to replace my POS bridgeport, a watercooler for the TIG, a nice lathe. Always had so-so machines, so a top dog old Rivett would put a smile on my face. Handheld miller spotwelder for sheetmetal work.
If I get all that, I'll need the 60X100 concrete standup shop with 25' eves and overhead crane.

Wish I had the money to buy an elephant.
I don't want to *buy* an elephant, I just want the *money* to buy one.
(It's an OLD joke, and a stupid one, but they're the only ones I know...)

Wow, what an interesting thread. I have a miller 210 mig, have to get a spoolgun kit for it. My current bandsaw is a portaband in the vise so I'd have to have two of those (chop and standup). Better air tools, more bigger grinders and buffers. Stand up belt sander. Real oven for the powder coater. Extend the garage and put a two post lift in. Machine shop tools (working on that).

Well I am going to assume that...
I have my 30'x40' shop in back built...
$600 per month for 1 year...
Then the list would be as follows.
I think that would give me plenty to do!
...wait I might need to make that shop a little bigger...

Machine shop tools are fun. I use the crap out of my old bridgeport and south bend 10K.Ranchero50 wrote:Wow, what an interesting thread. I have a miller 210 mig, have to get a spoolgun kit for it. I've got a jet horizontal bandsaw and most of the time wish I had a portaband. Grass is always greener on the other side right?
Bought the TIG cooler I was wishing about today. Found one with a torch for $100. Craigslist rocks.
