Today I found a stash of pictures from my triumph build.. since alot of guys here play with bikes..and well Kapt. drools and says thumper everytime he sees my bike Id thought Id post the pics of the build for kicks..I hope its cool to post other project builds here and all, if not I apoligize in advance.
First off this is my second build of the bike.. when I bought triumph it had a sportster gas tank and a kawi front end, back wheel and disk brakes. First thing to go was the tank.. I really dig the original triumph style gas tank, so I knew I had to find one.. Basically it was just the tank, fender and a top end rebuild .. The bike has an original routt kit in it, which changes it from a 650 to a 750.. gives the bike plenty of kick but unfortunally the P.O. didnt know the cylinder was aftermarket and put a standard piston with oversize rings in it. I got that all fixed and drove it around and well it jsut looked like every other black bike so I decided it was time for a change.. so here we go..
Heres a pic of what it looked like after I redid the top end , bars, changed the back fender , new seat ,tank and few other little things.. this rebuild lasted 4 months.. before it was back in Pauls garage for a mild redo
heres one of the bare frame.. 16inch rear tire and rim, just to mock up the frame hieght for the new front end.. I wanted this bike lowwwww.
As far as the front end goes.. at first I was going to reuse the stock kawi front end and disk brakes.. but I always loved the original harley springer front ends.. there is this something..well mechanical about them that says look at me I am a piece of art and can take what you can dish out.. so with this in mind I went to Nicks motorcycle salvage with a few parts, a spare sportser frame I had laying around from another build and worked out a deal on a 1948 springer forks. what I got was the front legs, real legs triple tree and alot of cuts from the chrome that was peeling off the thing.. After getting it home we figured it was a good 9-10 inches longer then stock, so the measuring, cutting and blasting begins. When all was said and done the chrome was blasted off , 7 1/2 inches cout out of the rear legs, a new set of front leg tubes made. here a pic of them after blasting and cutting..
the duct tape was used to hold em together to make sure the length was good..
after everything was measured and welded and then primed, I put them on the frame to check em out..
mocking up with a front 21 inch tire and rim..
mocking up the rest of the bike so I can weld brackets and bolt on the fender, and seat along with engine
here you can see the pipes I was going to use..at first.. before I decided to fab up my own..
check out the cool hand shifter..
The exhaust took three sets of stock exhaust pipes to make one set.. but Im happy with the finish result.. notice the welds..they get grined down..and for loks I am jsut goign to use header tape to wrap them.. the builds on a budget so no chroming or powder coating..this year..
Anyway, cant find all of the pictures so after the final mock up, everything got ripped down and then painted.. I decided to do up two fenders, one for whe nthe wife rides on the back..and another for when its just me.. guess which one has been on the longest!
So heres the final result..well um..until I c=get time to change just one or two other little things..
heres one of my favorite items on my bike..I scored a 1930s ford tailight off of ebay..when I stripped the paint down to get it ready for the final color and all I found out this was actually brass..and well I just couldnt put a coat of paint on it..so a polishing I did go..
the stable grows..
so thats it for the triumph ..at least for now..
