Embling----size diff

Post by 67mann »

:hmm: Image

Can anyone tell me why this is? The smaller ones, are what I just bought, the bigger one is one I've had. 68 was the claim for the smaller ones, but I haven't seen any mention of yr perticular on these parts. I just looked at LMC,Mac's,and DC and saw that they only show 70-72 for yr avalible. Just wondering-----kinda like the smaller ones better---not going for yr perfect restore

I'd have to do some research on the part numbers to say for sure, but here's what I'm thinking:

Styleside trucks with the 'Custom' trim level normally had the emblem mounted on the rear of the box. However, for a flareside truck, the Custom emblem would've been mounted on the lower front fender on each side, as well as any other trucks not having a box....like a flatbed, Camper, etc. The smaller one (I believe) was the fender-mounted emblem, whereas the larger one was the box-mounted emblem.

that would make sense. I have a bed that i still havent figured out its origins(has the rear markers on bump yet truck is a 67) and the custom emblem is on the back upper right and left sides of the bed. The smaller one would fit right on the b-pillar next to drivers door. That would be my guess

Sounds to me like you're confusing the 'Custom' emblem with the 'Custom Cab' emblem. They're two completely different emblems from two different eras. The '67-69 trucks had the 'Custom Cab' trim level, and those emblems were always mounted on the rear pillar behind the driver's door. For the '70-'72 trucks, the 'Custom' trim level became the base model and those emblems were only mounted on the front fenders or rear of the bed as stated above, never on the pillar.

:yt: First thing I noticed looking at it, and the "swoop" at the top of the C is different as well.

ANd more differences, looking closer. The between-letter changes and curves in the M are different, the smaller one they are more rounded, and the larger they are more sharp/pointy. Also the tail of the M on the smaller one sticks out more horizontally than the other one.

Nit picky I know, but they are definitely different, if someone is looking for it.

Definate differences, but the two I just got are alike and will be using them
when I redo truck. It'll be interesting to see when it done,if its noticable at all.
