Ryan, 9" rears were used from the mid 50's thru the early 80's.Lots of stuff out there. :) I was recently told the aftermarket is now repopping housings.A friend of mine has shelves full of 9" parts. If you like I can check to see if he has any 3.73s he's willing to sell. :)

thanks alleycat, but i think shipping would be pretty bad since gears are pretty heavy. but ive never held some before sooo :dk:

i try to keep away from wrecking yards to save my dad alot of hastle, since i cant go in. Besides, he has to go in for a complete disc brake front end soon

do most years of Fords have the axle ratio on the door tag thats labeled "axle ratio"?

its will say "axle" and have a number below it. but of course it doesnt mean a thing if the axle has been changed. But Usally the axle has a tag on it unless some one removed it.

And even then some one could have changed gears in side.

I used to hear good things about these guys. They are in your neck of the woods, so maybe give them a call:

Why can't you go into the wrecking yards? You look old enough to me!

Buy new.

It will be less than you spent on the POR 15, and will last as long, if not longer when setup right.

With used gears you never know how they were used and if they were setup right to match previous wear pattern.

Just and example (and I have purchased from Mike before)

Good luck!

Used OEM gears are usually as good or better than aftermarket. especially true for the lower ratios, 4.56, 4.88, etc.

A good gear man can tell in a quick look if used gears are good or not. A good gear man can also get even the worst gears to setup and last indefinitely.

thanks for the info

and also, how much do gears weigh? want to know how bad shipping would be.

and is there a way to tell what ratio the gears are when there by themselves so theres no door tag or rearend tag to show the ratio? are they stamped with the ratio?

thanks :)

The junkyard will be full of enough ford rear-ends to find what we need, now you just have to find a way to get me to pull them for you. Hmmm, keep your room clean for a month? Do a decent job of cleaning the pool for once?
