installing t-18 more info

Post by peanutman »

Ok sorry guys i need more info. looking in all the part mags our bumps have two different size humps, a 5" and 8" the 8" for manual trannys. I know this may be a silly question but in trucks with a factory 4 speed does the hump bolt in or is it just there with a hole in it and a cover plate of some kind or does the shift boot and ring cover the hole.

ok, This will confuse you more, sorry. I went out and measured mine, factory t-18, from the floor to the removable hump it's 5" and the hump is 2.5", so total from floor to where the shift boot screws down is 7.5". and yes the hump is screwed to the floor w/ lag style screws.

Ok jason i should have looked at your previous pic longer. Looks like ford made a small hump to bolt over the standard hump to compensate for the height of the tranny. Is the hole under the hump plate slightly smaller than hump cover or about half the size of hump cover.
It looks like the hole i would need to cut would need to start about 2" from bottom edge of fire wall.

The hole is about 3/4" smaller than the whole cover, basically the lip width of the cover. I took a couple more picts for you. Just for reference, my seat is all the way back. Man, lookin at these picts, I really need to do somethin to cover up this ugly mess

Good pics. Well i just got this old 67 donor truck running and drove it. Smokes but run ok. This t-18 tranny will need a rebuild. Can;t shift from 2nd to 3rd without stopping to put it in third and third feels and sounds a little rough.
But truck was free. So i will probobaly look for a three speed. Will keep me from having cut hole in floor. I will part this truck out i guess. It has lots of good parts inc am radio that still works.
Thanks for all your help!
