manual tranny?
i have a i think a 3 speed manual tranny in my F100 and im not sure of the shift pattern. it's 3 on the tree. i got it started today and tried to figure out where which gear was but got no where fast. now it's stuck in a forward gear and im not sure where reverse is. before i started messing with it i could find 3 gears but now it wont shift out of the forward gear and when it is off i cant shift it through the 3 gears i found before. does anyone have a idea of the shift pattern for a 3 on the tree manual tranny? also what came in the F100's 72 yr? im thinking a T-18 but im not sure if they made a 2wd T18....
thanks
thanks

Re: manual tranny?
i think reverse is pull toward up and up towardfs the sky. first woudl be direclty down from that then second would be push away from you and up. and then third would be directly down from that. those columns and linkages can get old and worn. you will probably have to check them out and possibly rebuild the column and or replace some bushing. or it could be as simple as the cab mount is rusted out and the cab is sagging causing the linkages to shift incorrectly and get stuck.

well i didn't really fix the problem. i did how ever find the little clip that holds one of the the linkage rods on oagainst the fire wall. i talked to one of my buddys that dropped the truck off at my house about it and he told me sometimes the linkage that goes to the tranny sometimes gets stuck. after messing with it for a few i was able to get it to go into gear to move it out of the way. of the garage to get my crawler out. i think i will look into running a AOD tranny.

Re: manual tranny?
can the manual trannys be converted to floor shifter? i was thinking about doing this and making a tall rat rod shifter for it 3 on the tree just aint going to cut it.

Re: manual tranny?
it can be done. with a kit. i least i think theres a floor shift three speed kit out there. i dont remember who makes them either. i have heard stories where its almost impossible to make a good working homemade floor shifter for the 3 spd transmission.

Re: manual tranny?
Yes you can get a floor shifter for it. Check most of the aftermarket shifter manufactures. Here are a couple to start you off with.Fattz7duce wrote:can the manual trannys be converted to floor shifter? i was thinking about doing this and making a tall rat rod shifter for it 3 on the tree just aint going to cut it.

Re: manual tranny?
To answer one of your original questions, a '72 2wd came with NP435 and T18. I know those were at least two of the options for manual trannies that year.
