Installed a CB today.

Post by 71 LONG BED »

I put my fathers CB (from 1973) in my truck today. Still has the license info stuck on it.
My dad replaced it, when the 40 channel radios came out. I hung onto it all these years. I even had to pay quite a few dollars to get back into working order about 13 years ago. Then I packed it back away....until now.
If anyone has a vintage antenna I am looking for one.

That's a really clean old radio.
Where are you thinking about putting your antenna? I'm kind of a CB nerd but I don't have any older antennas. Just don't get one of those 4' fiberglass antennas. They SUCK!!!

Looks good John,
How / where you going to mount the mike holder?
I might have an antenna… I’ll try to check it out more and get pics tomorrow, it’s on my parts truck.

That right there friends is greatness! I love it. I used to have a huge ground station in my room when I was a teenager. We lived on a big hill and I had that antenna up on an old TV antenna pole. I had the best ears in town. Back then all my buddies had a cb in their trucks but I had my little mustang so no cb for it (didn't look right to me). Anyway, there was a guy in town that had a over powered set up that could talk over any body. He was big red. Anyway, it would be a normal night and I would hear someone come on looking for me and big red. We would both respond and they would say that they had a buddy coming in from Texarkana (sp?) and wanted to know where they were and that they would be on chanel 5. So Big Red would call out to them and tell them that we would be quiet while I listened to see where they were. Everyone would shut up and I could hear them say they were 2 hours out. Then I would come on and tell the local guy who was asking where they were. It was a blast. The funny thing was I was 16 at the time but no one knew who I was and though I was some old timer out in the sticks.

For all you youngins out there this was before cell phones and the internet. It was a blast.

Good looking unit you have. Now all you need is a huge linear amp & a 1/4 wave & youll be in buisness. Dad had an old "Golden Eagle" back in the day.

A properly built C.B. radio with built amp, antenna & antenna wiring will have no problem talking halfway across the country. The wife's father is a truck driver & he is big into building C.B.'s. He builds his own & has friends in texas that he talks with often & they are around 200 miles away. Its like they are right next to him. Its almost like ham radio.

It will "snow" a TV set when he keys it up as well.

My older neighbor gave me one that looks about the same age as that. Wasn't sure what to do with it. Maybe I should hold on to it? Don't know if it works or not.

 Sorry John, I got sidetracked and then lost my job so got even more distracted... :o

I looked at the extra antenna on my parts truck and it is not a CB antenna after all, just looked like the old ones with the spring mounted base, it is just a radio one... and the top of it is broke too.

Sorry, hope you find one.

I use to run a Ranger 2950 with a 225 watt linear. (wish I could remember the brand) and I used to open and close the automatic door at the small market.

I was told a flouresent light can be lite up if it is close enough to the antenna, but I never tried it.

I still have all of my equipment and have been thinking about installing it in my little Ranger. I already designed an antenna mount in my software, just gotta machine it now. When I finnally get a round to it I'll post pics.

Install it in the truck. If not I'll take it. :P What brand and model is it? I'm curious to know.
