Wanting to do a swap.

Post by papabug71 »

Here is what im thinking..... My in-laws have a 72' F-350 & its built like a brick....you know... Anyways its a 2wd 390 truck with a NP435, PS,PB, & the biggest radiator I have ever seen in one of these trucks. If I can get them to part with it, I would give my left one to swap everything mentioned into my truck. Always wanted a 390 4 speed combo. Everything, & I mean everything should swap shouldnt it?

I can handle the power steering, but.....

Can I use the short drive shaft from the 1 ton on my 1/2 ton? (its a SWB truck & mine is a long bed) EDIT: I just remembered. Nevermind.
Can I use the power brakes since its power drums & not disc? Or will the valve be different because it has 1 ton brakes?? I would imagine some new brake lines will be in order as well.

This truck is absolutely built to the hilt. The front drums on this thing are massive, not to mention the DANA 70 rear end with 3:73'ish gears. The motor is good, its been sitting for a couple of years now, but I have drove it numerous times in the past. It drives like a freekin caddy with the PS & PB. Plus its been on propane since it was new so the motor should be nice & clean. Too bad the cab is absolutely GONE on it, or it would be a prime canidate for a resto.

What do you guys think?? :help:

I would be tempted to just swap your body onto the other frame...

to get power brakes the booster will swap over and you will reuse your master cylinder.

stangconv, dont think I havent thought about it! I do have a parts truck, but the cab on it isint any better. It would be a hoss of a truck if someone could bring it out of "farm truck" status.

The hard part is talking my in-laws into letting it go. They bought it brand spankin' new in Dallas Tx. & drove it up here to the ranch. Its been here its entire life....

I'll try to get it from them & go from there. Thanks guys!! :fr:

If the drive train is good, then I'd definitely find another body. It would be a sin to part out a truck like that.

A dually?
I vote leave it on the farm unless you are certain you can do it justice. Find a good cab first.
