Can someone verify this transmision

Post by FormerMarine1981 »

I believe this is a C6 for a small block. Not sure what year it is. Can anyone tell me from this pic what I have here or where to find identification on it? :help: Thanks, Ben

It looks like it from the top.

Roll it over and check it against this:

I'm pretty sure it's a C6 from the shape of the pan but it's been a while since I have looked at it. I was thinking about putting this into my truck. Would it work good in it? What would I need to make it work, I saw some wires on it and I have no clue what they would go to.

those wires are the neutral safety switch for car in the mid 70's. the tail housing is a longer one and do interchange i think with a swb truck. if you put it in a lwb you will need a different length driveshaft. that thing will need to be rebuilt by the way it looks. its been outside uncovered too long.

I keep coming back to this thread! LOL I did not post earlier as I was not sure but the linkage on that trans does not look like car linkage. I think it is a truck or van trans and starting in 78 they had the NSS switch on them (refer to the thread about tilt columns, 78 and newer columns do not have NSS mounting locations). Also, as far as the tailshaft length goes, it is the correct length for a pickup or van with open driveshaft such as a Super Cab or short wheel base truck and is the medium length housing (there is longer and shorter). How hard it is really to rebuild a trans? Where can I go to get instructions for doing it? Or should I just pay someone to do it for me?

If your like me & have no idea on the inner-workings of an automatic transmission, you would be best letting someone else do it.

it think htey are easy to rebuild. but thats because ive done it before. i have just never gotten the valve bodies to work properly after taking them apart. i think it had to do with the balls not being in the right places or something. i dont know. since then i just clean the valve bodies and put them back in. ive not had a problem yet.

:lolprev: I Agree! When I bought the 70 newly rebuilt FMX the thing didn't even hold up long enough to get it home
