I just picked up a non running fairly straight rust free 71 swb for $300.00.It is a sport custom with a 360/3sp.Its sat for three years and lost its radiator and battery to theifs, but just couldnt pass it up,I know I am very sick!
So far here is what has been done and spent,
$100 on miscellanous parts to get running(oil.carb kit, fuel filter, master cylinder ,etc)
$0 for a radiator from a friend
$0 for a recently overhauled 79 model front suspension a customer/friend gave me.(from a truck I put a MII clip on last year)
$20 for a 78 tilt column from pic-n-pull(got lucky that day when I found it
$0 for a good set of factory mags with fairly new tires.A friend upgraded to 17's.
$0 for a battery I had laying around.
Right now it runs ok ,drives/stops great but I am not a fan of F.E's or 3 speeds so another friend gave me a 79 460/auto which run great and will find there way in within the next week or so,he even had factory mounts and stands.I will reseal the motor/trans and buy a new radiator and hoses but for the money so far I cant go wrong.A little body work/paint and purchase new upper mouldings and it will be good to go.
Now I have to decide how I want to drop it,MII,C4 vette, camaro, volare, even considering beams(although I would rather spend the money some where else) I am not afraid of cutting a frame so I probably wont buy beams or MII crossmember, but havent ruled either out yet.
Will post pics as soon as possible, anybody that has parts they want to throw away I need straight mouldings and maybe a straighter hood.

So far you are 10 for 10. Way to go. Just the bed was worth what you paid for the whole truck! Nice job. Now, before you do anything else, we need pictures.

Re: Budget build under way
Finally got time to get pics.
Interior shot-recent seat recover, tilt column already in,gotta pull the floor shifter now.
Got a 70 model front clip at one time-luckily no frame damage, and grill is nearly perfect.hood has couple of dents though.
Untouched 360 that runs great, but will be swapped for a better running 460/auto.
Worse part of body is a dent behind the pass rear tire, not bad.
So far we swapped the front suspension with a low milage (on rebuilt) 79 model,
swapped tilt column already ,next is flushing the gas tank, new fuel lines,re-sealing/installing
the 460/c6,get drive shaft reworked, start repaint.
Right now getting it roadworthy with power disc setup and getting running has got the total up to $700 plus
a couple of days of labor.
Any idea's?- shave it,leave trim, roll pan or sport bumper,resto-mod or full custom?
I am leaning to a stock looking(new door handles, trim ,etc) but lowered about 5-6 inches with era correct looking wheels
maybe slots or cragars,Ive already done a couple of smoothed/shaved/severly dropped trucks with big rollers, now I kinda want
a rest-mod driver,I can go to Lowes or a cruise in and not worry about a paint job that Ive put 200 plus hours in,let me know what you think.

No, there can only be room for one of us in tx. My truck will be black, already has the 460/C6 and will run some D-slot mags. You may NOT do the same.
Really, it sounds great. That is the way I want to go (at least this week), my project plan keeps changing.
