Post by robroy »

Good day!

Any photos shown here that are coming from my web site will be unavailable for a few hours today, since I'm upgrading my web server. I promise they'll be back!

Time for another upgrade! Photos will be available again when it's back up, which will probably be in an hour or two.

Hi Buddies!

All the photos I've posted on Fordification will be unavailable for a week or two, since I'm moving from Palo Alto to Salinas/Prunedale (in Monterey County, California). As soon as I get my web server all moved and an Internet connection working at the new place they'll re-appear!

Thanks!

The Comcast guy is coming tomorrow to hook up my Internet connection. Hopefully it'll work! Then all the photos in my posts should magically re-appear shortly thereafter (probably before the end of this week).

Good evening,

I had an equipment failure yesterday, so I'm in the process of recovering from it. The photos and videos posted in my threads will be unavailable until I fix it!

Good evening Hemmi06 and GSequoia!

I powered off my two servers to move them from one room to another, and my Web/mail/DNS server never came back up!

It's a ten-year-old Sun Blade 100 (the early UltraSPARC IIe model) running OpenBSD/sparc64 4.5. I inspected everything carefully including the insides of the power supply unit, but can't see anything obvious that would prevent it from powering on. I'll fiddle around with it more, but I realize that the power supply or mainboard could have failed, and replacements aren't quick or easy to find. Many of its components are proprietary.

To get things back up in the meanwhile, I've made an ESXi virtual machine running OpenBSD/amd64 4.8. I have the Sun's disk attached to another computer to transfer the data in to the new virtual machine, and that's what I'm working on at this very moment!

OK, I think I caught the part where a 10 year old was making sparks on the Sun...
But I don't think I really understand... :hmm:

Will keep my fingers crossed for you. Kids can be difficult.

My head hurts just trying to get through what Robroy described  My summary after reading was, "Machine doesn't like the new room it's in, dunno why, no pics", and I imagined Robroy sitting in the room staring at it, and staring at it, and staring at it some more. Good thing we have smart guys like him to handle these types of things  No doubt it'll be up and running in no time.
