Oxy Acetylene welder
I'm thinking about buying an Oxy Acetylene welder. What brand of torches should I be looking at? I'll be looking at a cut off torch as well. Just seems to me that I might get more mileage out of a Oxy Acetylene welder as I've found myself needing to bend some metal. I've also acquired an owner oxygen bottle. How good is Victor?

Victor is among the best. Oxy/acetylene is great because you can weld, braze, solder, cut, bend etc.

Don't overlook Smith torches! I use them for all my aircraft work, and love the soft flame they have. Most of the people that are doing work on thin metal will weld with a Smith. The other torch I've had great luck with is the old Henrob. If you use it exactly like they tell you to, it's an amazing system!!! I think you can find it by doing a google search for "cuts like plazma".

Cool! That makes it an easier decision. I'll hop around the local welding shops to see what they carry, Victor or Smith. That way, if I need something, I know I can go to xyz shop and pick it up. I'll do my comparison price shopping as well.

Hi Larry,
Yep, that Henrob is something awesome! I've had a heck of a time convincing people that they can't use it set like a regular torch.

re: Oxy Acetylene welder
I worked In A foundry that sold welding supplys, and gas.
if you walked in our shop you would never see a Acetylene bottle hooked to our torches. It was all propane. but If I was selling welding gas to customers I would sing the prays of Acetylene.
I personally found using propane that the preheat time was about the same if you used the proper propane tip. I mean I never had a problem cutting 2" steel plate with a propane cut torch set-up as for welding
it worked but I like the mig better, brazing propane works well, and the rose bub could heat the hell out of any thing I wanted.
